Well, first of all, you can work with a friend on a project... Really, it's not that hard.
And also, I don't really think it's a great idea, because I'm sure many people (Including me) just leave themselves logged on, and leave.
And also, there'd probably be around a thousand people.
And it'd be very hard to increment. And it's not something Scratchers can do, because they can post apis on the forum, but not on the site. The Scratch Team would have to make the api and post it, while they could be doing something more worthwhile like designing Scratch 2.0. And on top of that, it's not very necessary...

And anyways, I'll never log out, so I'd always be "online".

I support!!!!! I would really like that. The only way to tell if your friends are online is by looking in the forums. And some of my friends don't even post in the forums!!!!

Perhaps instead of online/offline, it could be more like if they have a scratch webpage open or not, Or if they moved from one page to another.(As in from the front page to a project or to the forums, Excetera)
