Honestly, I think the coolest part about melting cans isn't the resulting chunk of metal, but the colored flames you get when you burn them.

You put a bunch of crushed up cans in a thing to hold them that has a higher melting point that Aluminum, like an old stainless steel pan (what i use  big_smile ) and put it in a fire about 1220 degrees (which is colder than a regular campfire) then you pour the Aluminum into something you want it to look the opposite of.

I made a football out of steel pans once  - (hurts a lot when u kick it though)

My friend accidentally did this while using it as a container for his smoke grenade. It didn't produce much smoke, but the aluminium can melted, along with quite a bit of tarmac in our school grounds.
