As some of you may know, when Minecraft 1.9 comes out on the 18th, all of your worlds will be deleted, because the new mushroom biome would mess everything else up. If this happens, every scrap of all of the hours you've put into your worlds will be for nothing. Notch has said that he doesn't want to do it, but can find no other way to put the mushroom biome in.
If you would rather have your worlds then the mushroom biome, please say something like, "Add me" or something.

Well, after a little bit of googling, I found absolutely nothing on minecraft worlds getting deleted for 1.9, so I doubt it's going to happen

There were some biomes (like the swamp one) that were added in 1.8 - while the terrain generator program was changed, worlds created before 1.8 still worked fine... maybe this is the case here?

You could just save all of your worlds and Minecraft.jar and use the old worlds only with the old .jar file.
Plus, it's a lie.

Don't think its true, your friend sounds a bit crazed.
And even if it was true, you could just rebuild it again, or save it in MCEdit and edit it into a new world. You just need to put a little effort in.

We can just back up our worlds using .minecraft in %appdata%

They're not even coming out with 1.9. They're just going straight to Minecraft 1.0.

First of all, friends are almost always wrong.
Second, they are not coming out with 1.9, it's going straight to the release (which you will have to pay ten dollars for if you bought the beta and not alpha)
Thirdly, why do you think it's only the mushroom biome that will cause your worlds to stop working?
Fourth-ly, Your 1.8 worlds will still work with 1.9, you just won't get the new stuff spawned in it, like the mushroom biome.
Also, minecraft is coming out the 11th, when Skyrim comes out.

I know a solution! Terraria. You don't lose worlds in updates like this.

Then why is there a 1.9 Prerelease?
