This is not fair.

I spent months working on my project, BeTiled. I tried everything from advertising to the Show And Tell forum, and it only has 4 views. This is unfair. I see why more and more people are quitting Scratch.

You don't just get fame, you have to work for it. Try to run for Curator, get a Scratch status (non-spamily) and that.

Oh, wrong forum..

Hmmmmm.......I see your frustration. First do what Catandthebanana said. Get a Scratcher Status. I know I don't have one, but I think I know how to get one. Be active on the forums. post more projects. This will probably get you to the Scratcher status. I'm working on it, I just realized my status was "New Scratcher" yesterday. Lol. There's a topic in "New Scratch Members" called "so about that New Scratcher Status........" That topic has some great ways for you to get your status. Then, when you get your Scratcher Status, you can run for curator. Give some great reasons why you would like to be a curator. If you do get picked, chances are, loads of people will look at your project. I know I already mentioned this, but you should really make more projects. they don't have to be super complicated, but fun. People will see it in the "Newest projects" section on the Scratch Homepage. They will probably comment on it too if it's that good. Also, make lots of friends. Or add people you like. They will get notified that you added them, and then probably add you, too, once they see your awesome project. That way, they can see that you've made that project (It appears on the homepage under "My Friends latest projects"). And when you make a new one, they can see that, too. Also, try asking your friends to advertise for you.
Hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Re: This is not fair.

I'm afraid this isn't a technical issue with scratch.  hmm

But on this note, only you have the power as to how many views you get.

Don't complain and expect people to view all your stuff. You have to work for it. Make good projects, and make them things that people want to see. Whats sad is that the scratch community seems to like to direct their attention at one certain group of people. That's where you need to work in a different category.

Advertising is key. Try to get your project featured in a way that doesn't break rules. Maybe someone will see it and recommend it to be featured. Maybe it'll get curated. Other than that, have friends see your project, put it in show and tell, or submit to the scratch design studio. If something ends up on the front page, it could be viewed by a lot of people.

Good luck!

I agree. But you don't ave to be curator, just know one. Try to show them a good project, and if it gets curated, all your projects will load in views.  big_smile

It true that this isn't a technical issue with Scratch, so I'll move this to All About Scratch, which is the proper forum. ^^

Re: This is not fair.

Wow, so many awesome and helpful posts in reply to the original. Scratchers are so awesome.  smile

I thought I"d chime in to say - I agree, this is a real problem. We need to find better ways for people's projects to be "found." One experiment we'll be trying soon is to make the front page "What the community is..." rows show a random selection of the top 10 projects in their category, instead of only the top 3. Hopefully this will spread out the fame at the top a little better - it's a start anyway.

But for now, the best way to get your projects viewed is to comment friendlily on other's projects - there's just no shortcuts. Once they see your nice comments, they may decide to click your icon and see what you've made. It may take a while, but after you build up some friends and take their advice on how to improve your projects, you'll start getting more views.  But it takes patience.  smile

None of my projects have a spectacular amount of views, so it does happen to everyone. While it is an inconvenience, you could always advertise in the Show and Tell forum. It helps to post a lot on the forums and comment on other people's projects.

Re: This is not fair.

I suggest being a lot more active on the website as others have had. You can always advertise your project on a signature once you become a scratcher. The point is, the more people see you on the site, the more they will check out your stuff.

This is still all a theory, because I am only a new scratcher like you.

P.S.

At the time of this post, your game now has 22 views and 7 love-its. Maybe you are doing better already.

Re: This is not fair.

*sigh*... I really think caring about whether /any/ project gets famous or not is a big mistake Scratchers are making.

Start with this: Ask yourself, "why did I make this project?"

If your answer is "because I want to be famous on the Scratch Website, of course!", then... well... you're doing something wrong.

To the extent of my belief, the Website serves the purpose of "SHARING", not "COMPETING". People LEARN from your code, if they see it. You LEARN, from the programming experience.

Did you learn anything about programming making your project? Are you now a slightly better coder?

Shouldn't that be enough?

Scratch isn't about becoming famous; I don't get many views, but I still enjoy making projects. You could try advertising in show and tell though. Another way to advertise without spamming is to comment on a project similar to yours, saying something like this: "I liked your project! It's a bit like mine, only mine is different because _________________________________!" And then post a link to it. I don't think it would be classed as spamming if you put it like that.
