Shift-click R

Okay, so I'm getting really annoyed here. Apparently, when you shift-click the R in Scratch and select "Turn screen fill off" it allows you to edit Scratch. I know because I've done it before. But NOW when I try it, Scratch just acts like I didn't shift-click R! It's SO annoying because I need to edit a variable's color for a project!

Are you clicking the upper-right part of the 'R'?  Also, are you using a different computer?  Some computers, I've heard, use different keys to accomplish the shift-click effect.
