so uh i've always wondered this but why are topics for minecraft servers, which you can chat on, but not forums or chats allowed? i don't really see what the difference is between them. could someone shed some light on this?

I think because there is a main focus (hopefully) that people are chatting about.
in this case, the server.

yeah but like what about forums about certain things?
people can just as easily (actually more easily, usually) swear on minecraft chats and so uh yeah

Well not always but I guess that's up to the ST if they want people on those servers, or coming in contact with them (via links) on the website.
meaning they can decide if they want people linking to them

They really shouldn't be places to chat. People should be either chatting on the server or finding something else to do. >_>
