Is the Linux version reliable?

Hello,
I'm running a Linux computer and I was wondering, is the Linux version of Scratch reliable enough to make projects on? Would I be able to start a long-term project and be able to finish it?
Thanks!

Re: Is the Linux version reliable?

From what little I have played with it and read - running it under wine works but seems a little slower, the native linux at least lacks midi support which scratch does use.

If someone else posts in - they probably have more accurate information

Re: Is the Linux version reliable?

Hey coolstuff -
I've been helping test the linux package and from what I've seen it works pretty well for the most part.  The issues with sound are still not totally resolved (but seem to be better in the latest package).  And midi stuff (drum and note blocks) doesn't work, but only a very small percentage of projects use them at all - so this may not be problem for you.
Of course the package is still in the testing phase, so there is always some risk. But it's been very stable for me.
If you'd like to try it out download it here: (also has known issues)
