Well I'm back online now.

@Harkou-I'm only getting that stuff because I'm on a very low budget, but thanks I'll check them out  big_smile .
@Earthboudjeff-I'd first choose if you want to go for AMD or Intel. Your motherboard will determine almost all of the components you choose after it.
@meowmoew55-I'm getting them from Amazon UK. I'll check out that site though  cool .
@fire219-Sounds like an awesome laptop.

Oh and when I get a YouTube account, I'll post some videos about making a computer.

Make sure the socket works with the CPU.

The AMD is the cheaper, but Intel is more expensive, but popular and powerful. Especially with the i3,i5 and i7

That thing goes for £31.62 on Newegg.
Not sure if you can buy stuff from there since you're in the UK, but you might.

Cool. My next computer will probably be custom built. That won't be for a while though, because my laptop screams through NFS: Hot Pursuit (2010 remake) at the highest graphical settings (short of 1080p video, the screen is only 1440x900).

It will probably use a 3rd gen Core i7 and whatever higher-end Nvidia GPU I can find for $300.  tongue

@above post: I have a design for a computer using the Parallax Propeller microcontroller and a Z80 or 68k for the graphics. I have also started on the OS for it.

o really? Can you start a thread about it with more info? I'd love to hear more.

2GB of memory for Windows 7 64 bit? You should really get more than that - RAM is cheap and 4GB is practically a minimum nowadays.

I've also never heard of that PSU manufacturer. That doesn't mean it's bad, but you should make sure that whatever you're going to buy is reliable and can actually output the wattage it's rated for. You don't need a 650 watt PSU for that build either. It doesn't even have a discreet GPU, so something around 430W should be more than enough.

I'd try the G.Skill Ripjaws series of DDR3. This is a 4GB stick for £18.87:

As for your PSU, the Antec EarthWatts series is a good deal if you're not doing anything too power-hungry. Here's the 380W model, which should be enough for your build.

4gb ddr3 at that price is perfect. I might knock my rig up to 8gb. I am getting the parts for christmas. Exited!

Re: How To Build A PC Official Thread

I didn't buy a computer, I upgraded my already built computer that I got from my sister, who got it from my grandparents who got that from a friend... it now has:
A dual core AMD processor (I'm never good with names)
4 gig of DD2 memory
ASrock motherboard which name I can't read from here as its in the cupboard.
A graphics card which I refer to as the Geforce one with the giant cooling system on top of it.
And a 2TB harddrive
this all cost me £240

(The reason this cost me such a little amount was because the graphics card was free from a friend, the memory was a trade with my dad and the motherboard and processor were a deal on www.ebuyer.com)
