What is a baritone?

A baritone is an awesome, lesser-known instrument that I play and LOVE!

It's a low brass and just barely smaller than a tuba. They are very expensive, leading people to make ISOs- instrument-shaped objects- and  sell them for as much as a normal baritone costs.

My baritone looks like this:
http://z.about.com/w/experts/Antique-Musical-Instruments-2370/2009/04/Besson-Bell-forward.jpg
It's a decades (and I mean DECADES)-old marching Besson baritone. They may not look beautiful like this laquered one:
http://www.misterdave.net/Phoenicia%20School/images%20phoenicia/Baritone.jpg, but it plays beautifully.

A baritone is a tenor tuba.

So, now you know!
Discuss baritones here.

Cool!
Did you know that the notes on the staff are the same for trombone and baritone?
For a bass trombone, it's the same as a tuba.

It's a baby tuba :3

That's how they described baritones to us when trying to get kids to sign up for the band program at my school.

I play clarinet  big_smile

Re: What is a baritone?

Oh, now I understand what was the brass isntrument in your old sing (the "I heart baritones" one). XD

Anyway, cool! I never heard of it, or heard of it that often, that is. How'd you get such an old one?

Mr. G's friend used to be the director for an old marching band.
Mr. G bought it for $400!  yikes
That's cheap for such a nice baritone!
The newer Bessons are higher than $2,750!!!!
He says if I give him the money for it, he'll buy ME one!!!!  big_smile   big_smile

Re: What is a baritone?

I prefer more mainstream type instruments.

I play acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, piano and violin.

Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.
