Just because thy disagree with a term coined by their fans (well, they got labelled by their fans) dosn't mean I/we have to.
They got labeled by the media and music journalists. Most of their fans are highly against calling MCR emo.

THROUGHOUT THIS, REMEMBER WE ARE DEFINING EMO MUSIC AS EMOTIONAL.
Okay, here goes.
In no order, the tracks on the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance:
The End. - As quoted in my sig. This is like an intro to 'Dead!', and mentions how the singer does not want anyone to cry at his funeral; and how he doesn't like how he looks & stuff. EMOTIONAL.
Dead! - A lightharted take on death, about a girl who died 7 never fell in love. It's an upbeat song but it's depper meaning could be considered emotional. EMOTIONAL.
Welcome to the Black Parade - Rock opera about 'The Patient', who dies at the beginning at the song, and enters the afterlife known as The Black Parade. The Black Parade was a concept invented by Gerard Way, and the song expresses a lot of emotion, particularly in the chorus: 'we'll carry on, we'll carry on, and though you'r dead & gone believe me, your memory will carry on...' EMOTIONAL.
Teenagers - Not emotional, thsi song draws on Gerard's fear of today's youths, really awesome song. NOT EMOTIONAL.
Sleep - Well, the phone recording at the start of the song involves a man who gets th feeling he is being choked to death in his sleep; and the main song is aabout letting go of your dreams etc. KINDA EMOTIONAL.
House of Wolves - More religious that emotional, in a weird way. 'We played ring around the ambulance like we never gave a care'. KINDA EMOTIONAL.
Mama - 'Mama, we all go to Hell, Mama we all go to Hell: I'm writing this letter, and wishing you well. Mama we all go to Hell. Ooh yeah Mama, we're all gonna die...-' etc. A song about someone writing to their mother. The lyrics petty much tell the story, look them up. EMOTIONAL.
The Sharpest Lives - About someone who turns to drugs & alcohol to stay happy in life: 'Giev me a shot to remember, and you can take all the pain away from me...' EMOTIONAL, and dark too.
Famous Last Words - This song saved my life. It starts off dark, and the chorus mentions how the singer is not afraid to walk this world alone & stuff. This song means a lot to me, and is VERY EMOTIONAL.
This is How I Disappear - A very meaningful song. 'And without you is how I disappear, to live my life alone; forever now' says it all. EMOTIONAL.
Cancer - Makes me cry every time :') Most emotional song on the album, about a cancer patient facing their short lifespan & realising they are going to die soon. Listen to it if you can. It's beautiful and on it Gerard has the voice of an album. VERY EMOTIONAL.
I Don't Love You - 'When you go, would you have the guts to say... 'I don't love you, like i did yesterday?' '. Very emotional song, the lyrics tell the tale of a man who's telling his girlfriend/wife to leave while they can, necause they clearly don't feel the same way about the relationship. VERY EMOTIONAL.
Any arguments with that? ._.
Yeah, The Black Parade is a very emotional album. Most music has some sort of emotion, whether it be happiness, sadness, love, hate, anger, etc. A lot of Eminem's songs are emotional, but is he emo? A lot of Metallica's songs are emotional, but are they emo? A lot of The Clash's songs are emotional, but are they emo? If "emo" means emotional, then all those musicians would be.
That's why I don't like the term. Emotional music is too wide, so what the genre actually means gets confused. It's was considered emotional hardcore punk (Rites of Spring, Embrace), but then people considered it emotional indie rock (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Promise Ring), and then people considered it emotional pop punk (Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World). Now it's confusing everybody over what it means, because emotional can apply to any kind of music. We don't need the term.

here has another point...unless it's a party pop song, pretty much all songs have some sort of emotional value
for example, eminem. yeah, his songs are VERY emotional. make you think, cry even. but would you ever label him emo?
if someone is very emotional with happiness, would you call them emo?

Well, Eminem does use very self-confessional lyrics, and if he was more of a rocker than a rapper then yes, he would probably be considered 'emo'. 'emo' music's origins are labelled as Hardcore Punk, and indie rocks. Yet with many shifts in cultures, a slightly wider range of rock is now considered 'emo'.
You guys do realise emo started out as a type of rock music, right? Because it looks like everyone's getting mixed up in the difference between emo culture, which extremely variates, and emo music, which is relatively easy to grasp.

Wow you are so politically incorrect it's amazing. Why are you bringing all of this negativity to scratch? You call me and sanddude music hipsters? You don't know what a hipster is then. It's actually more like being a music purist. This negative stereotype 'Emo' that you're using (which you think means emotional) comes from Emotive Rock. It's a definition that's been warped badly throughout the years into this scene kid culture mess you're trying to promote on scratch. You're always the one I see bringing inappropriateness to the forums with your talk of condoms and anorexia and things like this. This is a programming forum for children for god's sake. And that's very insulting, what you said to sanddude. He knows a lot more about music than most people on these forums.

Well, the hipster thing was a joke. No-one here can take a freakin' joke! >.>
I missed the 'most' out of that post, ._.
I never said emo was negative, actually. I'm an emo myself, and sayings it's bad is like saying I'm a stupid person. Scene isn't emo! When did I turn Scratch into a 'scene mess'? How did I 'promote' it? romoting is not the same as discussing. Care to explain? ¬¬ No-one on here is behaving any differently after I post a topic.
Okay, I can't believe you said Anorexia is an inappropriate topic for Scratch! It's an everyday issue, and it's likely that there are people here who have experienced it. So just because people are younger doesn't mean they haven't experienced this stuff! I know a girl of 8 who developed anorexia & she had no-one to talk to; the topic on it has probably offered a manner of release for some. Just because anything that involves real life is 'inappropriate' to you doesn't mean it is to everyone. If it was as bad as you make out the mods would have closed it.
And I'm negative, huh? Every topic you reply to, you DISAGREE with every point others make. I don't think I've ever read a positive post from you, so you're one to talk.
You're just as bad for POSTING that word again, btw. And that was ages ago. Just forget about past mistakes of people & move the heck on.
So kindly stop posting troll-y comments on this. Thanks. c:

Sorry, been on other sites. I just got wound up by Andres, sorry >.>
'Emo' music/artists tend to have/use lyrics such as death, depression, suicide, rather than emotions like love and that; ya get me? I get where you're coming from, just saying that it's generally songs like that that get labelled emo. c:
I love Metallica, btw. :3
