When a topic gets a new post it moves to the top of the page. Bump posts are deliberate posts to move a topic back to the top of the page.

Yep - otherwise they descend to page 340 of the forums after a while, never to be seen again!

They don’t actually work. The bold topics go away, or de-bump, when you go way and come back. It’s “new posts since your last visit” so bumping a post only brings it to the top of YOUR bold post.
But there is a chance that it goes to the top of someone else’s too, so there’s no reason to stop bumping.

People bump to get there topics noticed. Its usually used if A)There desperate for replies. B)Its important. Or C)They want to be noticed.
