'Microsoft Windows has stopped working.'

I get this error message every once in a while that says that my Windows OS stopped working.  I just hit the little red X in the top right and nothing happens, but I'm curious. Why does this keep showing up?  And no, I don't think I have a virus.

I'm pretty sure I don't.  I've ran a few scans (for different reasons) and nothing happens, and it's not even slow.

Means either explorer.exe is corrupted or you have a virus, bro.

Re: 'Microsoft Windows has stopped working.'

That has happened to me once or twice, and my computer has never had a virus. I don't think you should worry about it.

Re: 'Microsoft Windows has stopped working.'

Possibly a virus/adware that produces that message  smile

Reinstall Windows if at all possible, or take it to a IT specialist. Big brothers are usually also good  smile

Eh, just a program that isn't really standalone so it's labeled Microsoft Windows. It's obviously crashing, but if there's nothing important exploding or something then you should just ignore it.

Yawn.

Restart the computer? I didn't want to repeat what was already said.

It happens to me when a program freezes. I don't think it's a virus.
A virus would probebly have a message like: "sector 4.5 error invalid type. windows failed to load". So it's probebly just an error, but NOT a virus.

Re: 'Microsoft Windows has stopped working.'

its probably either 1.Explorer is corrupt (possible, but highly unlikely unless something screwed up explorer.) or 2.its something else that is not a virus. i would recommend backing up anything you want to keep first, then reinstall windows from the install cd. that's a good way to fix it.

Re: 'Microsoft Windows has stopped working.'

Just don't worry about it and keep doing what you were doing. If nothing breaks, don't try to fix it. If something actually breaks, then tell us and we'll try to help out.
