Isn't that what should make us become Freinds in the first place? Not whatever gender they like.

Re: LGBT discussion thread

Ah, good, it's been reopened  cool

The 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' ban has been lifted from the US Army after 18 years!

The DADT was a ban preventing people discriminating against homosexuals and bisexuals, while barring openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual service members or applicants from military service.

I think it's great that this has happened, and is a step forward in the discrimination based on sexual orientation  smile

Me neither. All they were really doing is closeting people even more so they could join the army :L

Re: LGBT discussion thread

I don't get why people would be anti-homosexual because of their religion. There are plenty of things that the Bible says that we do everyday. In fact, if you look at it one way, urinating could be considered a sin.

And it's even worse when these people try to push their beliefs into the law (illegalize gay marriage, keep DADT, etc.). Why do you have to force YOUR religion onto other people? If homosexuals marry, it's not harming anybody.

what i think a lot of people don't realize is a lot of religion is not to be taken literally
see, i'm roman catholic (known to be one of the stricter churches), and our pastor tells us god just wants what is right. if god wanted there to be slaves, then why would he have freed the Israelites from the egyptians?

the church doesn't believe in other religions (duh), but we are supposed to accept them and respect them. if someone doesn't, it's more of a personal choice

i'm tired of people saying christians are all against homosexuality. i'm for their free rights, and marriage

Exactly! I don't understand why there is so much hatred of homsexuals and so many riots against gay marriage, while everyday people lie, cheat, steal, bully, etc. Where did Christians get the idea that homosexuality is such a greater sin than any other sins? The Bible even specifically says that all sins are equal:

"There is no one just, not one, there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. All have gone astray; all alike are worthless; there is not one who does good, (there is not) even one." Romans 3: 10-12

I think the irony also is that lying, cheating, and stealing hurt other people, but homosexuality does not. Yet homosexuals get so much hatred.

In addition, it's actually somewhat controversial what the Bible says about homsexuality. Of course, there are some verses that condemn homsexuality.

"For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions: for their women exchanged the natural use for that which is against nature.  And in the same way also the men abandoned the natural use of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error." Romans 1: 26-27

Then there is this verse.

"For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.” Matthew 19: 12

Although Jesus may have been talking about enuchs as being people who are unable to reproduce because of birth defects, there is also a chance that he was indeed talking about homsexuality. If so, Jesus says homosexuals were BORN THIS WAY. :b

Btw, I'm a Christian.

Really? Because if so, then the New Testament never says anything else condemning homosexuality, and there's no proof that it really is a sin.

Same.  I respect them under two conditions: 1. They respect my atheism in return. 2. They don't use religion as an excuse for every little thing.

yeah i agree that's pretty annoying
the "younger generation" doesn't really seem to do it but like, my grandma relates EVERYTHING to religion
i'm not sure if this makes me a bad christian or what but when everytime something happens you have to relate it to the bible or something it gets a bit tiresome

"oh, god frowns upon that"
"would jesus do this?"
"well, the lord gave you this gift..."

i know these are meant to help us or whatever but it's like "no jesus would not do this i'm a TEENAGE girl in the MODERN, MESSED-UP world"

I spoke with some priests. It was difficult, because I'm Jewish and they jumped to conclusions, but after the confusion, they all agreed.
