If you look for a beginning, I tried it with "xaby's composer".
The music (MIDI Data) is stored in PNGs or in the field below and can be saved with screenshots. That was the idea. And the instruments can be "plugIns". In the top of the program. So that we have one standard for all instruments the users will program and put them together in one big good program.

Can I ask you a question?
How will the saving be done? To play an instrument is one thing, but to record it in a time line like in Garage Band and edit it later or use more tracks with other instruments at the same time is a little bit tricky.
I tried to save the songs into colored dots. Scratch was to slow to save data in arrays (lists) or strings (textfields). It is also complicated to synchronize the tracks.

Can I help with the interface and the code?
And instead of using MIDI, use <play sound[

One, you are very new to scratch.
Two, Interface is my job.
Three, Play Sound isnt going to work for what we want to do.
Try again when you are a scratcher.

I actually planned to record samples and play them using exactly that block. But I guess this project is already long time dead.
