Advantages of Scratch, And Disadvantages.

Well, Scratch is free to use, And is a easy coding technique for young people, or people with no coding experiance ever!
But some stuff lack in scratch such as massively multiplayer games on it, and people being able to steal your code's that you used, by simply downloading your project.

MULTIPLAYER:
Multiplayer is in scratch, But only Mesh.
Mesh, isnt particulary what i was looking for, i prefered if we could just play online, simply by clicking "join game" / number of people  sad , isnt what i hoped for , im saying.

PROFIT:

You can't make profit out of scratch, which most developers tent do want to do, including me.
And makeing profit in makeing games, Is a Dream Job.

DOWNLOAD:

People can download the game, so in the profit, they can just see how they can activate the profit.

SAVING/LOADING:

You cant Save or load your games, which is a disadvantage  sad

There's some pointers on scratch, could not think of advantages other than makeing games for fun.

Thanks - starwest1

Re: Advantages of Scratch, And Disadvantages.

Scratch was designed to be an introductory language. Once you're good at programming Scratch, you can move onto more complicated languages, that do allow that stuff.  smile

Re: Advantages of Scratch, And Disadvantages.

That statement is True.

Althought Scratch could design a Scratch Pro*
For People Who Want To Experiement these things,

If not, I dont know any other language friendler
Then scratch, And can code very well in scratch.

Therefore, i can't code HTML that well, and dont know any other like java coding, as they are extreme to the supreme  tongue

I have tried makeing minecraft plugins with java,
Not work  hmm

Know any good languages up-a-notch from scratch?

How about a mod such as BYOB or Panther?

Perhaps the language Scratch is coded in -- Squeak. From there, I didn't have too difficult a bridge into JS.

Re: Advantages of Scratch, And Disadvantages.

While HTML and/or JavaScript aren't made for making games, if you are really interested in programming look into them.  They'll allow you to make your own websites.

As a mac user, I've been asking this question for at least two years.

Any free ways to program 2D games for a mac?  I've looked into Unity, but since it was made for 3D games it seems to over complicate things.  But maybe I should take a more detailed look again.

You know, something like a Scratch Pro is not a bad idea. It could have tons more features than both Scratch and BYOB/Panther, but be more user-friendly than the Scratch mods and normal coding. You could sell it for like, 10 dollars in the Mac app store (or a lot more). If anyone did that, I know they could find a huge niche (people like me who think Scratch is somewhat limiting but don't want to actually have to learn a coding language). I would buy it.

Re: Advantages of Scratch, And Disadvantages.

As for a simple language just a notch from scratch.  Darkbasic isn't too bad.  I think they have a free version you can download.  The purchased version gives more commands you can use but you can still do a bit more with the free version than you can do in scratch.
