iOS is, I believe, based off of Mac OS X, which is in turn based off Darwin, which is based off OpenBSD (or FreeBSD, I forget), which is Unix. So yes, it is very distantly based off Unix. About the same as how Android is based off Linux.

Actually, the android is based off Unix as well.
Everything, except for Microsoft products, is based off Unix. That's why windows get's so many virus'

I love Unix! 
But it's interesting that Microsoft decided to create a new system from scratch (no pun intended) instead of using a Unix or other system as a base
