"Onion Skin" feature

It would be helpful to be able to see previous costumes when drawing a new one, so animations can look neater and such. I've had trouble finding an inexpensive, good program with this feature (i.e. and 700 USD Adobe Flash Professional  tongue ) ... that is all.

Re: "Onion Skin" feature

Yeah, that would be a good idea. But quite hard to implement, don't you think? I don't know how much work has been done to the paint aspect so ...

Re: "Onion Skin" feature

That's true... and if the Scratch team doesn't (thankfully) have time for chatrooms I doubt they'll have time to perfect onion skins. Oh well. D:

Re: "Onion Skin" feature

Why Onion Skin?  There is other things needed in this little paint feature that scratch has.  For instance, multiple text boxes.  Perhaps fix the glitch with the ' I ' being a capital letter in fonts less then 9.

Until they get most of the basic things fixed and done with they should then look into implementing better features.

If you want that for animation, try Pivot. It's free and Very Easy!

Also, nice suggestion. I feel that an Onion Skin feature would bother me and get in my way...

Why not make the Onion Skin Feature be able to be turned on and off? Also @Nick60 - Sometimes having one textbox is a good thing

Re: "Onion Skin" feature

To paddle: I bet his sister probably posted that

To this thread: You can kinda do this already. first of all, u copy the last costume and add on to it and you move the box in which u paint in in order to see the other costumes.

Re: "Onion Skin" feature

Onion skin?
How about a better overall drawing tool first?

If you want online skin you could try making pictures in GIMP and importing them into scratch.

This isn't Gizmodo, your "@" quoting won't work. Just use the quote button.

Also, what are the advantages to not having a "new text box" button?

There is a very easy way to see the last costume: Copy. You can then edit accordingly. This thread seems to be getting a little off-topic...

I do it anyway, and I can't see it going any faster than Onion Skin, if it existed.

@big-bang: The only problem with that is  after you clear the underlying image, you can't see what it is anymore.

@Technic20: Pivot only uses stick figures limiting the ability of what you can animate greatly.

My sister posted that. She got into trouble for that.
@Jamie - I say @ because to me @ means at so when I say @Jamie I mean at Jamie

I think Onion Skin would happen later in the scratch programming. After all the bugs get fixed

Huh?

If you post a comment on Gizmodo, typing "@username" makes a link to the last post that [username] wrote. Just saying that the Scratch forums doesn't seem to do that.

Why does your sister even know your password?

Baisically, @(username) means you are talking to that person. It's like replying to someone without quoting them.

Tons of replies o_o
Pivot isn't exactly what I'm looking for... it's a stick figure animator, thus it probably cannot achieve what programs like flash can.

Re: "Onion Skin" feature

You can start changing interface from moving stage to the center of program (like in Flash). Also, the layers feature will be good at all. There are only two commands:
[blocks]<go to front>[/blocks] and [blocks]<go back( 0 )layers>[/blocks].
In 1.4, there MUST be better way to control layers.
