I always save stuff as PNG because it don't make it all pixelated.  hmm

Isn't it great how Macs use png whereas Windows uses the depreciated bmp format?  big_smile

Same, and it has good transparency and alpha channel compatibility  smile

Re: I've gone through every png file on my computer

Are those system files, or something?

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Yea, system files and application files...

Go to any Mac application and right click on it, choose show package contents, double click on contents folder, then double click on resources and all the interesting stuff are there  wink

Eh. BMPs store more information, tbh
I personally prefer bmps

Every PNG file? Just how many do you have, since I imagine that would take a while if you had even a relatively small number. (I have 8,061 currently, so you could see how that would be a lot to go through.)

How so? PNG's are lossless and have the advantage of an alpha channel.

bmp is not supported by some browsers, and is too big... I'd much rather use tiff which also contains all image data without compression but is more superior and widely accepted  smile

[i]Every[/b] PNG file indeed! I used Spotlight feature  smile

Apparently all Mac system graphics are either png or tiff  big_smile

I compiled the multiple png images used by applications into gifs in gimp to create these  wink

Yeah, but "superior" is subjective here. TIFF's may be high quality, but they're also massive in terms of file size.  hmm

But aren't tiffs?

Basically, tiff and bmp are complete bitmaps that store all the info.

Jpegs lossy compression is just embarrassing...

Png gives us the wonder of lossless compression along with 16 million colours and an alpha channel  tongue   smile

quote: "The BMP format (Windows Bitmap) is compatible with most Windows programs, including older programs, but is not recommended for Web browsers, because BMP cannot compress images. BMPs are sometimes preferred for images in computer software when speed is more important than reduced file size, because uncompressed bitmaps can be displayed more quickly."

I use PNG all the time when creating pictures. I use paint.net's special format if I want to edit it some more since it saves layers, but other than that, PNG. All the time. Just like Chrome.

How'd you get Paint.NET if you "haveamac?"

I use .xcf native gimp format if I'm saving work in progress  smile

Okay, now we're on different pages. Yes, BMP doesn't really have any advantages over TIFF, but I wasn't referring specifically to that case. I was referring to TIFF's compared to any other format.

See where miscommunications get you? (That one was my fault, btw.)  tongue

Oh! Sorry  neutral

Well, I wish my camera had a function to save images as tiff files...

And yea... tiff is only useful if you want to keep it exactly how you made it... like if you hid a secret image in there  tongue  *spooky smiley!*

I like PNGs
They have really nice filesizes
And they're indexable, and people constantly are writing new optimisation algorithms

Here's 2 possible ways:
1) I own a PC and use it (I do)
2) I use a virtual machine on a mac.

My name says I have one, not that I use it 101% of the time. I use PC more.  tongue
