SCRATcH SOUND SENsING(PLEASE LOOK)

This is a very crucial discovery in scratch, I hope it is a new discovery.
I had my microphone unplugged(its broken anyhow) and was listening to some music and writing a game on scratch. I decided to fool around with the Loud? block I checked it off, and dramatically, it started turning true and false in tune with the song,
so, i turned it off. the Loud? variable resumed at constant false value.
This therefore means that Scratch will use Wave values inside the computer from programs like i-tunes that run music and senses if its loud or not if there is not a microphone plugged in (I'm smart huh?)
If there are any officials who would clarify that I'd be quite glad.

This is cool! It also responds to adjusting the master volume on Windows XP.

Re: SCRATcH SOUND SENsING(PLEASE LOOK)

i honestly would have thought more people would have looked  at this(Replied too)
I am going to make a project that tells you if something is loud or not, I'll include clear instructions to turn on loud music using  like a computer music player and whatever will happen will happen.(havent thought that far ahead yet) Im still a little thrilled at being able to program in actionscript2.0

Re: SCRATcH SOUND SENsING(PLEASE LOOK)

I took a look and found it interesting...but could not confirm on my laptop (which has built in microphones) without messing around with the setup more than I wanted to risk.

It seems like maybe you could use this feature to make sound visualization projects for your favorite songs!

Re: SCRATcH SOUND SENsING(PLEASE LOOK)

That is so odd...I'm listening to everything I have (213) and It says 1 if it's loud enough otherwise it's 0. That's very cool!

Re: SCRATcH SOUND SENsING(PLEASE LOOK)

AHAHAHAHAHA!!!! YES!!!! I GOT MY MICROPHONE TO PICK UP SOUND FROM MY SPEAKERS! WHAT NOW SUCKAS! YES!

mainly I adjusted the microphone sensitivity, lemme see if I can give some info on doing it

even so my mic was only getting readings as high as 20, this means the volume needs to be a tad loud (go ahead annoy your family!  tongue  )

Re: SCRATcH SOUND SENsING(PLEASE LOOK)

OK first go to control panel, next sound, speech, volume, and audio (whatever it is), click on any of the three buttons, there should be 5 tabs in the new window go to audio or voice next click on volume for the sound recording part and turn the main volume up allllll the way, this should increase your microphones sensitivity to sound

BTW the first tab is for changing out the windows sound effects, have fun!

[blocks]<when green flag clicked>
<forever>
<set[fisheye]effect to(<loudness>)
<end>[/blocks]

For interesting effects set your PC's recording device to "what u hear" or "Wave" or "Mix" or whatever, hit the green flag, and play some techno in your favorite media player for interesting effects.

Re: SCRATcH SOUND SENsING(PLEASE LOOK)

I don't think it works in Vista, since they took away StereoMix or whatever
If you have Vista, you have to use the external jacks.
And, uh, not to burst your bubble or anything, but the loudness block has been used for ages, from JSO's music player to some of Paddle2see's projects.

Yikes...
thanks...
I think there should be a rule that threads 5 months old can't be posted in. Oh wait...that would mean I'm in trouble  sad
