Any tips on writing a climax?

I've always had a little bit of trouble with the climaxes of my stories. I mean, they aren't exactly bad but they aren't really good, either.  hmm

For instance, the climax of The Magic Bath 2 had a space dogfight, but it didn't really have much affect on the story, or tension of it, if you know what I mean. The heroes were stuck underwater in their space ship, they had the thing they needed to get to save humanity, and they "fired everything" (to put it in simple terms) to launch themselves out of the water. Now, that's not really very dramatic (or something along those lines), is it?

Any hints and tips?  smile

Re: Any tips on writing a climax?

One of the important things regarding the climax in literature is not the tension that flattens out, but the tension that follows it. I like to think of it as a hill, the higher you climb, the faster ride down. I can't deliver direct tips to you're not writing anything, but keep in mind that not all stories can be executed as dramatic and, at the same time, oceans can be calm if there is no wind.

I didn't understand the second half of that, but I liked the first half.  tongue  Good advice.  smile

Describe things in intricate detail.  Meaning as in glory.  And such.

This is what I use:

Read the notes in the Climax section.
And there's a key word here: suspense

Re: Any tips on writing a climax?

Okay, so first you have the exposition, the introduction.
Then there's the rising action. Basicly, it builds up to the climax and it introduces us to the problem.
The climax is where the problem is solved, and is the turning point in the story. It can also lead to multiple problems, because there and be as many climaxes as you want.
The falling action is what happens after the climax, where all loose ends are tied.
The ending is, of course, the ending.

EDIT: outposted!

Re: Any tips on writing a climax?

If you are making a series, remember not to have the 'Falling' action at the end.  Put it at the beginning of the next story, or add in another climax as well as the current one.  This was done in the 'Gone' series.  wink

That was a second climax.  Then to top it off, their was no water.  Three climax's  tongue

I'm sure it's a good story, but I don't read supernatural things.

It depends on the story. If you don't post the story you might as well not post the topic

You'd only need to know the genre and basic plot.

Uh, no. It depends entirely on the plot.

No. I'm not looking for an entire step by step guide on how exactly I should write the climax to my story. Just some tips on how to write a good climax, in general.

IT DEPENDS ON THE STORY.

How many times do I have to repeat myself? I typed it in caps so you could read it better.

Not really that much, though. If it's an action story, then climaxes are usually done in the same kind of way. *points at the diagram*
