Why won't ubuntu install any programs.

When I try to open a .deb file program manager appears then sits there. And does nothing. Just a white window.

I'm trying to install mpich2, if it helps.

Re: Why won't ubuntu install any programs.

Open the Ubuntu Software Center or Synaptic and search for gdebi. Install it. Now right click on the deb and choose to open it with gdebi. Make sure to close the Software Center and Synaptic first.
