Cool! For some reason when I heard the title, it reminded me of City of Ember, but I guess it's different.
Interesting concept, it sounds like something I'd read

No it doesn't. You don't understand energy I'm guessing. Wave your hand in front of you. Then let it drop onto the table. You've just demonstrated 4 types of energy. Some can't just stop and the other continues. That's physically impossible.

Kinetic, potential, gravitational, and thermal?
As I said, kinetic energy in humans still works, thermal energy just doesn't changes, gravity still works, and potential energy is fine because it's only potential.

"Gravitational" energy is gravity potential. The 4th energy was Sound. But that still doesn't make sense.

The concept that you're imagining is all energy becoming equal (even out), which is entropy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy). Second, some of your attempts at classifying energy were wrong aswell:
-Gravitational energy is (indeed) potential.
-Both kinetic and potential energy are mechanical energy.
-There are more than 4 types of energy, thus sound isn't the "4th". Sound energy does indeed exist, though.

I'm not going to recite all 10+ types of energy, because you could easily think of more than 4 in a snap.

Third and final:

-My science book calls them kinetic energy and potential energy, so that's what I call them.
-I never said that sound energy was the "4th". I was saying that that was the fourth type of energy that is demonstrated when you do what Andres-Vander said.

All you guys that are talking about how unscientific it is.  Just, stop.  Its a book idea about a fictional world/story.  Of course this doesn't even make sense irl, but maybe it would make sense in the book.  So lets just stop arguing about science.
