Any teachers out there?

Are any teachers using this in their computer labs?  I'm just starting out and am trying to think of meaningful projects for students to do using Scratch.

I'm Not A Teacher or Adult But... You Could Think About Some Projects They Can Use To Help Them with school. (Maybe Like A Calculator)

What's your idea of a meaningful project?

I've been using Scratch for a few years now in my technology courses (grades 3 to 8), and I haven't ever told anyone to make anything in particular -- I just introduce new techniques every now and then, and provide wandering support as they work through their own ideas. That level of freedom might not work for everyone, though.

Yes, there are teachers!  Are you interested in teaching programming for its own sake, or using Scratch to support other subjects?

I have 5th and 6th graders in a regular, so integrate Scratch into projects as we go, plus have a project time like mrweston's when I can.  For example, my math students are using Scratch to explore similarity.  They started by drawing a coordinate grid (inspired by an example from DrSuper), then used "go to (x, y) to draw an image, and now have to use variables as scale factors for the x and y coordinates of their image.

Here's a gallery of other projects from our school:

... and a wiki with links that suggest starter project ideas in addition to what is on the Scratch support page:

Have fun!

Re: Any teachers out there?

hi, i am a trainee ICT teacher and am setting up a Scratch Club. Never used Scratch! i am just going to use some of the beginner stuff and let the kids explore. They will overtake me in no time but that is okay we are on a learning curve together.
