FAQ: What do I do on the Forums?

Introduction

Hello once again, this is my second FAQ; what do I do on the Forums? Here is a detailed explaination of the Scratch Forums for all you new Scratchers.

Annoucements

This is the Scratch Team's personal blog, on the website. Located here are all the latest updates, plans and annoucements for the Website, and the Scratch program. Its mainly small website updates, but at times there is news about Scratch 2.0, this is useful as you can even ask questions about the news and annoucements seeing as this is located on the Scratch Forums. I'd check up there around once a week to catch up on the latest news about Scratch. This is perfect for the Scratch-aholic as they can become pretty experianced thanks to the annoucements on Scratch players (Experimental, Java and Flash) so they'll know all the glitches that have been resolved and recent ones that they never knew of. Of course, I only go there to see the annoucements for Scratch 2.0.

New Scratch Members

This has you New Scratchers written all over it, it's a mixture of New Scratchers asking vital questions about their Scratch experiances to experianced Scratchers posting help for newer members. Once again, if you are new - this should be a constant check-up for you if you do have problems that you think other Scratchers might of came across and found a problem for you. I never go here anymore because, well - I've been on the Scratch program since 1.4 came out so I know all about it, but I do know Scratchers who have came across problems that haven't came across for a long time so they went for one last check and sure enough, found the answer.

Show and Tell

My personal favourite, the Show and Tell thread has many threads started by Scratchers so they could show off their latest and at times, greatest creations here - its really quite fascinating what hidden wonders can pop up here, in fact - I'd suggest using this thread to advertise projects without the need of spam! So go ahead, weither you're bored and need to find something that can keep you occupied - or in need of desprate help as your excellent project has dwindling views, it is still one of the vital hubs of the Scratch Forums.

FAQ

This is where more advanced problems go, and these are usually by the Scratch Team or excellent projects found by Moderators and Admins. Theres more problems found by Scratch Team than by the Community. Theres always the odd question that is left unanswered back in the New Scratch Members - so the Scratch Team finds it, researches in it and gives you an answer. See? And feel free, if you have proven you're right, correct the Team for their very, very, very, very... (20 verys later) rare mistakes they make when it comes to the FAQs.

All About Scratch

Where Scratchers find problems and give you answered, solve FAQs themselves and even give the most experianced of users some gitches they figured out and what they should avoid doing in future referances. Basiclly, this is where I post my FAQs and where others post theres too. An alternate and more advanced source instead of the FAQs or New Scratch Members.

Advanced Topics

A place where you should only adventure if you have a degree in algebra and calculus. The topics here are by many lets-make-this-complicated users who finally recognize what to do with pi in their projects, but if you do understand what they are talking about, there are many great techniques here that you can use to improve your projects. I'd just stick to your own techniques if equations aren't your thing.

Suggestions

Despite being replaced by this. This thread is still going strong and many users still post there (at times) impossible suggestions which give the Scratch Team the confusion they get looking in the Advanced Topics section. Feel free to add your suggestion.

Troubleshooting

Scratch's repair guide is right here. Its where many, many, many bugs are issued - still many waiting for a good antidote. If you do come across a bug, glitch or whatever you name it - this is the first place you'll need to go, first checking if any other users have found and posted the problem, find out if anyone found a fix and if you haven't found the bug - make your own thread stating clearly what happened and any other useful infomation. Or; Found?, Fixed?, Written?.

Sensor Boards

Everything Lego WeDo to PicoBoard is here, so if you do own a sensor board which is compatible with Scratch, come here! Theres lots of information, hints and useful tips here so you can get the most out of your Sensor Board! I don't really have one but if you do have one, be sure to stop here so you and your Sensor Board together can create excellent - quality Sensor Board projects!

Language Sections

I'm not going to do every single foreign section because, well - I'd barely understand what each quote was. But if you are foreign and have no idea what English means, there is always a section specially made so you can finally speak with ease without the need of Google Translate. But if you don't fully speak any of the languages there - please don't post there or use Google Translate - your comment will get reported.

Notice

Collab Camp 2011 is located next after the foreign sections but because the contest has ended, there is no need to explain this thread.

Collaboration

Collabs are as old as the Scratch User, once you get the hang of Scratch - you can create a group (or collaboration) to work on a project. Collabs do take alot of hard work and roughly 1/3 of all collabs fail. But if you do manage to keep it going, then go here so you and your team can track the collaboration's progress. Be sure to make a gallery, and a thread here so you can know what everyone is doing! Feel free to start a collaboration here - just make sure you have at least 2 extra members in the group as well.

Requests

This is where you can open up your little Scratch shop, making things or offering services for users. You know, signiture banners, sprites - that sort of thing. Also, theres bound to be someone who is bound to have the thing for you! Hey, I made the banner myself but a few moths later, I found someone who could animate it! True story.

Project Ideas

A place for the desperate at finding a good idea and people who have done so many good ideas that they've ran out. I go here just to help others with ideas (especially the ones who turn ludicrous ideas into possible ones)! If you are feeling charitable, then feel free to click a random thread and tell them some random idea thats just came from the back of your head. Go on, you never know - I might actually get chosen!

Miscellanous

We are nearing the end of our epic trek through a strange dimension formally known as the Scratch Forums. And to finish of, we have came to the Miscellanous forum. This is mostly moved threads that seemed to fit nowhere else. You too can post here, just be sure that it definatly dosen't fit anywhere else or in the TBG Forums. Here is the barren wasteland of threads mostly to do with 'Who would win? ____ or ____?'-like threads. Or stickys, that where stickys, but now aren't. It feels a bit sad here, but despite my gloomy explanation, its still thriving as we speak.

The Long-Awaited End

So now after my long winded explaination of the Scratch Forums, you'll probobly know more than you ever thought you did, and New Scratchers, I hope you take this into account before posting a thread. But for now, goodbye!

This incredibly long FAQ is sponsered by NeilWest Productions. Who else?
