What IS Herobrine?

He's been removed three times, and yet he's still in 1.8. A friend of mine saw him in creative mode on hard. And no, he did not get a screenshot.

I don't get it.

Does Notch just say he removed him as a joke?

Is he really trying to remove him, and failing?

Discuss.

I need answers.

Herobrine is just a hoax - a creepypasta of sorts that someone faked in a gameplay video.
In it, they're in their house when they stumble upon a player with the default skin except with rather creepy white eyes, which is just standing in one spot staring at them. Notch adds in "removed Herobrine" in every major update as a joke.

Herobrine doesn't exist.

If he was, someone would've found the coding for him in the jar.

When we was "removed" it was just a joke, for Herobrine never actually existed.
