I think that New Scratchers should not be able to post on a topic that has not been posted on for more than six months. Scratchers rarely post on a topic more than six months old, because this is often considered necroposting. New Scratchers often don't understand this, and post on old topics from as far back as 2007. This creates unessecary and redundant work for moderators, who constantly have to close topics and post something along the lines of "Please do not post on old topics. This in considered necroposting..."
Therefore, New Scratchers should be prevented from posting on old threads. If this happened, necroposting would encounter a sharp decline; almost all of necroposts are by New Scratchers.
(Does not apply to Stickies or ITopics, which should be revived rather than making new threads.)

Yep, just saw that someone necroposted almost 4 years again.
I support, but maybe some wise new scratchers would be necroposting for a reason.
Maybe not, cause if it's necroposting, people probably forgot about the topic and it wouldn't be considered duplicate.
Support. and maybe no one should be able to necropost. They should just copy the misc and make it close older threads. But maybe a 1 year inactivity limit.

Some forums do have a 2 month limit.

Interesting idea! I think that it's definitely logically sound and within reason - New Scratchers commonly necropost on very old topics, and I honestly can't think of any situation where they'd need to post on a very old topic. Support!

Good idea, but there should be an option to "restart" a topic, where the old topic would be archived and the new topic would have a link to the old so you could understand what they were talking about.

How would that be different from just posting on the topic in the first place?
Thanks for the support, efisher82 and Harakou!

Greenatic, you don't need to that each person that supports...
Thanks to Medic for supporting!
Why not? I always think it polite to thank my supporters. When I was featured back in June, I responded to every single comment. I just think it's the courteous thing to do.

Maybe they should just close them after a while.

The problem with that is that it would create extra work for moderators...

Yes, but topics that have not been replied to for 2 weeks automatically get closed
