Someone deleted all the files in the Dropbox folder, so I restored them all, except for the "Project" folder. Hope that's sensible...

Hey guys, I made a quick animation intro in Autodesk 3ds Max. Maybe we can Build on This, Idk, Maybe Add our logo: Here It Is

Does anyone here have any experience making OSes (for the phone?)
Could certainly do it, but I'm still not convinced of the idea.

Not very sure of the phone idea, I mean we could give it a go if you want.
I've done a few OS's and I've looked at other peoples scripting for them so I have a reasonably good idea on them.
Vote on it maybe?

I'm all for an OS, as long as we get something out. All I know is I've seen some pretty bad OS's on Scratch (bad scripting), and we shouldn't rush this if we do choose an Os based project.

I finished the contest (if we're still doing it). I'll upload it to our dropbox ASAP- feel free to add or remove anything to it. I still need someone to make a code generator, I can't figure out a way to make one.

Our dropbox username and password are public to everyone... anyone could have done that. We should delete the post saying the username and pass.(Make sure that everyone writes it down somewhere)

i know! somebody could edit one post deep in topic. we could tell each other on which page it is. ☺

How about IRC? Can you all use IRC?
Whoops, not sure that's allowed.

How about an Elite clone? The 3D can't be too difficult to do in Scratch, and making the planets and the trading stuff would be fun.
You can download it here somewhere (it's really retro by now).
A quick run down of the game: you fly from star system to star system in your spaceship. At planets, you can dock with the space station (we could leave out the space station, I suppose) to trade goods at that planet. Prices vary between planets. When flying between planets, pirates sometimes attack you. The planets vary...
Just a thought.

We should probably do this, but not a clone, because I can't download that. We could make up our own planets. BTW, I can't make that kind of false 3D. You'll have to show me how it works.
I think we DEFINITELY should do this. Like blob said, it would be a lot of fun.

To play the game, you'd need a copy of DOSBox, I believe. It's a lot of retro fun; you should definitely try it if you can!
In terms of a clone, I was thinking of cloning the game mechanics - the trading and everything. The 3D is back from the days of BBC computers, so the planets are just big coloured circles, so I'm sure we could figure something out. The spaceships are a little harder; but to be honest, if 3D really didn't work, switching it to 2D wouldn't really hurt it too much.
So yes, definitely making up our own planets, goods to trade, etc.
So, there are a few main parts we'd need to make.
* A trading system, with a list of goods. You can only access this from the space station. The prices and supply of each good vary from planet to planet -- so a planet with more supply will buy and sell the good for less; and, for example, an "agricultural" planet has a greater supply of food, and there are "industrial" planets and so on. You can also buy upgrades for the ship, such as guns and fuel for the hyperdrive.
* There's a map of nearby stars. Each star has a single planet orbiting it. Your spaceship has a hyperdrive to jump between star systems, but it only works some way out from the planet. You use the map to select one to jump to. We need a cool hyperspace effect, too
* The flying-the-spaceship part itself. As I said, the planets were just big coloured circles in the original -- I'll have a play and see if I can come up with anything, which I'm sure we can. If not, 2D would still be kinda okay, I guess -- and actually allow us better graphics and easier coding, etc...
* There are other spaceships, some friendly ships that you could attack and steal from, and some pirate ships that attack you. You encounter these when flying around the star system. Again, these are harder to do in 3D, but I might have a play with Blender and see if I can work something out.
* The space station is, again, difficult (as is docking with the space station in the actual game
), but we could just have it so when you fly close enough to the planet, it counts you as landed on it.
There's a bunch of other stuff, like missiles that can lock onto enemy ships, and a rating system (which gives the game the name "Elite") -- but you can always look on Wikipedia or, better still, play the actual game.
Having thought about it, 2D might be more manageable, if perhaps not as much fun.
Your thoughts, now I've outlined it better?

One is we make a similar game to this one

Second is we make a game like the sims games.
(Like the old ones, Not the sims 3)
This Version - http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=0ZNX-af6_Ng
(Skip to about 2:00)
Sorry I got mad, Glad to be a part of the team![]()
I can't go to youtube, my dad blocked it, but if you could describe it to me that would help
Sorry to butt in, but I already have a similar project. If Team Earth would like to partner with The LIFE Studio, feel free to comment on one of my projects about it.

This sounds like a great idea! However, I'm not sure if I can speak for all of TeamEarth.

I'm not sure. Zeusking's project didn't work for me when I tried it.

First, the uploaded version is a very early beta.
Second, we started about 1-3 months ago, and still going strong.
Third, I would love for Team Earth to partner.
I will upload a slightly newer version, stored in the cloud in case of project corruption.

You need to show us what you've done already, tell us what you've done already, and tell us what you're going to do.
Otherwise, we don't know what we're joining.

It would be pretty easy actually, The hard bit is getting them to be able to walk around a house and interacting with objects. I'm pretty sure we could do it

Who wants to do what? (vote)
Clone is not preferred. We do not spend hard work for someone to copy us. (As in cloning)
However, The LIFE Studio is open, we do accept new project members. Also, this dosnt mean LIFE will be your main project. Team Earth | The LIFE Studio is two seperate things. I am working on policies for the project, which I will release soon.

I think you misunderstand -- we were choosing between helping you with your project, or doing a completely unrelated project, which would be a clone of the game called Elite. (Just as your game, the LIFE Project, is like a clone of the Sims.)
We weren't talking about stealing your work!
