I have been making a new site, which is a 'File Up-loader', however I am incredibly new to PHP, so I am going off tutorials. Currently, you can upload, but there is no way I can list the files which you have made. What I am planning on doing, is this:
You upload a file, and a cookie makes sure that it knows this file was uploaded by you. Then you can go to somewhere like *.com/list/ to find out what files you have uploaded.
Any other ideas?

P.S. I am not going to share the address, until I get everything sorted out!
This file up-loader will be totally ad-free!

So, no-one interested?

It seems cool
I think you should make it so other people can download it, though.
There'll be no ads, and no wait time?

No ads, no wait time. You are given the URL to share with people. All files can be uploaded. Is that the information you wanted?
Offline
If I were you, there should be an upload limit, as to not make your bandwidth exceed what is needed. Also, make sure to make it show some banner ads when you download, or even a video/pop up ad if you need to. These kinds of websites aren't very profitable, so ads are the best way to go!

That's what I wanted to know
And yeah, make the maximum upload around 10-30 megabytes.

Lol. I was more going on donations, and as i cbs setting up adsense, it was going to be nice to the scratch community. And IT wasn't really meant to be for money :S

I'm nice.
To you people, unlike some things.. like mediafire.
Keep the ideas flowing. anyone who wants to help with the development, there is a thread in advanced topics.

I doubt anyone's going to donate. I've seen many of these bud off forums, and they usually fail without some sense of income to pay for bandwidth.

1 Gigabyte is a lot. I meant in a single upload-Do you mean 1 gigabyte total or 1 gigabyte per upload?
And will there be a registration thing?
And bandwidth isn't easy to get free, you know.

1gb total, but that would cost a lot of money for you, depending on how many people use it
1gb total would be better for two reasons:
1.) Trolls wouldn't be able to abuse the system
2.) I could upload stuff that are important that weigh more than 30 megabytes
And what's the catch on parallel downloads?

It's using tiny.cc and sites like that
It's just to shorten the url. and it would be a register thing :S if it was 1gb total, that way the system can't be abused. There would also have to be proxy blocks, and 1 account per IP.

How does that have anything to do with my question? I asked what's the deal with parallel downloads
(Parallel downloads means how many items can you download at the same time)

Just saying, some website sites (ipage.com, where I host from) have an unlimited bandwidth kind of thing, and chances are, unless this is really popular, with a 1gb limit you won't go over

I didn't have a catch. Maybe to get some more money, you are directed to an 'You have exceeded the maximum download limit per day. You must wait 30 seconds' to download another file from this site. Register, and gain more downloads."

Thanks, but I already have a host. My dad has paid for it, and that's how the site is currently hosted. But considering this project will need to beat file sharing sites like mediafire, I am going to need some way of making money from it. :S
I am aiming to make it ad-free, yet I don't think that'll be possible, so I may make it as clean as layout as possible, with self-styling features. (For registered users). I may make it possible to use the site without registerring, but the things are incredibly limited (50mb per week limit?).
I thank everyone for helping with this, and I am going to need more ideas before this comes to life!
While on this line of thought, I may make the site focused on connecting other sites as well, that way, if you are registered on scratch, you already have an account on this site. This will be compatible with sites like Facebook and twitter as well, hopefully. But once again, it would have to be based on IP's, and I don't like proxy servers very much. This system could be abused, if not used properly.
Hmm... I want to make it more 'user age' appropriate, to make it more family-friendly. I was thinking along the lines if the files had cuss words as filenames, this file would automatically be rejected, and if the user tries to do it more than 3 times, with any cuss, their IP and account would be blocked.

Hmm... I believe that this is going to turn out to be more than just a file uploading site. I can tell from adding account compatibility for scratch, Facebook, Twitter and all those sorts of sites is more like bringing together social networks. If I really wanted, I could add Google Plus when it's out (I really should, shouldn't I?). I believe that this site will have aspects of it to make it to appeal to a broad community, rather than just base it on one aspect of the internet. If there is anything you would like to suggest, please do so!
This thread is being closed, as it has been changed from just a single 'File serving' site!
