Hehe we're not being tested on it or anything! We just got into this long conversation about Black Holes, Worm Holes, the Fabric of Space, why Pluto is no longer a planet, and the other dimensions.

It was more fun than yesterday when he told us all about all the ways a large metor would spell doom for Earth 0_o

And this is a Regents (aka- most kids take this. The really science-oriented ones take AP and we have a local version for kids who really don't get it) level class!

I read about that in a book, I think...

If a flatlander tried to break into a vault, they couldn't hop over the edge because, to us, it has no roof. They don't need a roof. The only way they could get over it is to be pulled in a 3rd dimensional direction. Then, they would think their fellow flatlanders have become ghosts. So if one of us were pulled in a 4th dimensional direction, we would think everyone had become ghosts, too.

Do you know what book I'm talking about?

I actually understood this, but they didn't explain much of the 8th dimension.

I'm 10, but I still sorta understood this. I know about physics and this sorta stuff. (Well, some). I'm in gifted class and even though it's not required, I sometimes decide to go home and research this sorta stuff, but your video... My gosh, I think it gave me an aneurysm.

Actually, they got the part in the book from the principle it's based on. That part isn't actually in the principle, it's from the book. But it's true.

0th dimension is awesome. Pointville is a world in a dot. 
Lineland is like Pointville but with line segments, and no one can change their order. They are stuck in the same place. For example:

K-King
Q-Queen
B-Bishop
G-Guard/Knight
C-Court Jester

<—— Right G G G C B B K Q B B C G G G Left ——>

None of them could change their order. So the bishops would be stuck in between the King and the Queen FOREVER.

That wouldn't be a problem in FlatCity. They could go North, South, East or West, in which case East and West are left and right. But, if they saw a bank vault like this:

C is Coins, and I and _ are walls. Note there is no roof.
