Hmm now that, is a tough one. But luckily for me, I am getting both!
. Well I already have my new computer, and like maybe in a month or two I will be getting my iPad. I would suggest though, since you have an obsolete computer, go with the laptop, and maybe if your birthday is upcoming, buy the iPad on that!

It's ugly.
And when I get the 7 I'm going to make the taskbar look like Vista.

Laptop. iPads are all cool and flashy and all, but they are really overpriced (and not to mention are only oversized iPhone 4s (iPod Touch in the case of the Wifi-only iPad)).
If you do get a tablet though, get a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Those are awesome (and run on Android).
If you're going to criticize Apple, you should at least know what you're talking about.
They are not overpriced. Many tablets on the market cost more. The new Samsung Galaxy tab costs the same price as the iPad.
iPads are bigger iPhones, but the larger screen provides potencial for better apps and games, and better user interfaces.
Android is glitchy, and doesn't have as many apps as the app store. Plus, iOS works. reliably. And it's pretty fast too.

As soon as you buy the iPad they're probably gonna make a new one in less than 6 months. Typical apple *tut*
Get a PC

I probably will. I'll also get used to the larger taskbar (but not the icons only; I'm not using that).
