Re: Windows 8 Developer Preview Will be out at 8 PT!

Win7 is great, but from what I know about Windows 8, it's got all the reasons I abandoned Macs, and no perks.

Re: Windows 8 Developer Preview Will be out at 8 PT!

I'm still using Windows 7.
Never found the need to click the 'update' button in the window that always pops up. I'm too used to 7.

Erm, 7 is the latest version.  tongue

And you really should update Windows when updates are available. Some can be pretty important.

You're still using IE7? O_O I guess since XP users can't use IE9...

I really want it, but my satellite internet has a 17GB download cap per month, and that 3.6GB download would mess it up big time.

Yeah. Most Windows releases were just "Windows" with a number after it.

Windows 1? What's that?

Also, there was Windows Millennium Edition,
Windows XP,
Windows Vista,
etc.

Now it's just getting dumb. "Windows 8" doesn't sound very professional at all.

For Windows releases with numbers for names, there's Windows 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, 7, and now 8. By comparison, there are actually fewer major Windows releases with actual names. ME, XP, and Vista are the only real major consumer releases to have an actual name other than a number. (There's Windows Server/Home Server, CE, and WinMo, but those aren't mainstream consumer desktop OS'es.)

Cool. I'm downloading the 32 bit.
My processor is 64 bit compatiable but my motherboard isn't  sad  I can also install the 32 bit on all my machines as well.

Nah, you can install on a separate partition and multi-boot just like any other OS.

Actually, after reading around, it looks like it's not *technically* supported, but as others have pointed out that's likely just in case they change something major in the bootloader and all that. There's really no reason it shouldn't work. I'll be installing on a completely separate hard drive just in case though.
