Remember the Y2K scare? It came and went without much of a whimper because of adequate planning and analysis of the situation. Impressive movie special effects aside, Dec. 21, 2012, won't be the end of the world as we know. It will, however, be another winter solstice.
Much like Y2K, 2012 has been analyzed and the science of the end of the Earth thoroughly studied. Contrary to some of the common beliefs out there, the science behind the end of the world quickly unravels when pinned down to the 2012 timeline. Below, NASA Scientists answer several questions that we're frequently asked regarding 2012.
Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.
Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?
A: The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012. Then these two fables were linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 -- hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012.
So stop complaining about the world ending in 2012 already, it's very annoying hearing:
THE WORLD WILL END IN 2012 OMG
Guess what. I bet half of the people who say this don't even know HOW they think it will end.
The plates in the Earth will shift, question is what will be the outcome. So read it and discuss. (The article not me ranting about how dumb this is getting.)

oh, fools. there is no evidence the world will end or will not end in 2012, so why worry about something you cannot prove or disprove?

There is tons of evidence that it won't end.
Did you read the TP? (sorry for being obvious but really.)

Dude, you're the one freaking out. Just because I posted a topic about how it's interesting that the "End of the World" prediction corresponds so closely to the population reaching 7 billion...I'm not saying the world is going to end, nor am I saying the Mayans were right, I am simply saying that it's kind of cool that that happens to happen. Most people don't actually believe the world will end, it's not us who need to snap out of it, it's (I know this is a little mean) you. You made a whole new topic just to rant about people ranting about the end of the world. I don't want to sound too harsh, but we're not all idiots here.

I read most of it. And it hasn't happened yet, so you cannot prove it won't happen.

I know we arent all idiots but I hear this way too often -.-
And ok, brettman, guess we'll wait :B (No sarcasm intended, seriously.)

The world will end enventually, we'll all die eventually, the human race will eventually become extinct. Nobody can predict the end. Heck, we could all die in a minute, or tomorrow.
And if we do, my only regret will be never being able to play Half-Life 3 T.T

My topic has been the only topic on here to recently mention the 2012 doomsday topic in over...I'd say at least 2 months.

Thank you. Finally, SOMEONE had to clear this up.

These people just got the idea from the Mayan calender.
Supposedly, it ended at 2012, but that doesn't explain enough. It could've just meant that they just stopped there, it doesn't exactly mean the world is going to end there. I mean, would you like to keep updating the calendar every time? No, not really.
So yeah, I agree 100%.

I've heard that the Mayans actually WANTED the end of the calendar to come.
It was like New Year's Eve, but without the champagne. *boohoo*

Y2K was a legit problem. This Wikipedia link explains it. My dad's company made a lot of money fixing peoples computers.
