We all know about the school hierarchy. Groups of students with their individual popularity ranking. Groups include:cool crowd, goths, nerds, gangsters, and so on.
Well, recently, it appears that I need the latest iPhone to even think about talking with anyone outside the Uber Poor, No Phone, Unwashed subgroup of the Outcast group.
I'm sick of this, because I don't even have a regular mobile phone as I can walk back home if I'm late.
Thoughts?

I hate things like that too!
Personally, though, I don't really care about it. I'm a tomboy and wear boy's clothes, and don't care about what others think of me. My advice is to ignore them. In the long run it won't really matter, I think.

Yes it will. For six years I've never had more than three friends.

Only 3 friends?! I mean, I think I remember you saying once that you're a kid. I mean, that's what my babysitter told me, meaning when we're grown up this school hierarchy won't matter at all.
I'll be your friend if you want.

I have seen this problem all over the world. In South Korea, everyone needs to have a designer handbag (this is just an example), and the ones that are bestselling, by Hermes and Chanel, cost over $10000 in US money! It's just ridiculous! People shouldn't be judged by what they own. This seems especially true in developing countries.
As for some advice, try not to seem embarrassed by the fact you don't have a phone (I don't!) It helps, trust me.
Why not save up for one, but that's only if you need one. Don't buy one just to fit in with the crowd. This is what the big brands want you to do. They want you to buy an smartphone. They want you to buy their products. They want you to follow the crowd. Unless it's necessary, don't.
Why not show them what you're capable of, and that you don't need a smartphone to be "cool".
I hope that helps.
EDIT Why does everyone have US flag sigs? Something to do with 9/11?

So this is what it's like in a public school...

So, is it the people you want to talk to who won't let you talk to them because you don't have the latest iPhone? Because if so, then why would you want to talk to people like that? But if it's just other people telling you you shouldn't talk to them, then ignore them, and talk to whoever you want to.

Or cookies.
My friend baked over 100 cookies and the school practically shut down
I broke my finger in the aftermath

I fit in the 'kinda not-popular but everyone generally likes me' group.
I am a tomboy and an emo, so people tend to avoid me as I sometimes seem scary... but yeah. I don't like being stereotyped as annoying (I'm constantly hyper) or weird. Or Goth. I am NOT Goth. >.>

I just laugh at the system. And become friends with people who are true to themselves, and don't care what anyone else really thinks. Why should you? If they care about how they look to other people, and if they are influenced that much, they're usually not worth your time.

What's wrong with weird? I'm weird, and everyone knows me as weird (even if they don't, I inform them that I am, in fact, weird).

Not everyone wants to be seen as weird.

But they can't handle someone not conforming to their narrow view of society. -.-'
@Alternatives - Yep, that's what I mean :L

I'd probably go into that, if we were putting people in boxes, every school has its small groups.

Being called a goth isn't too bad, I'm a guy with long hair, I get called a number of things I don't want to repeat.

I'm in the

I am in the "stereotypical nerd" group, and really don't care. In fact, I am proud of my nerdiness.
I really don't care what people think of me, as long as they don't call me a ret@rd. I can't stand that, like Marty McFly can't stand being called a chicken.

Yep. But I have really short hair and wear boy's clothes so I sometimes get mistaken for a boy.
My advice to all other kids is to not bother with it. Be who you are and don't wordy what others think of you.
