I'm trying to draw a map of the city. How big should it be? 64x64 would give us 4096 blocks of land. It would need a wall (if it was, say, 6 blocks high) with 1524 blocks in it. Or 23.8 stacks.

Because of the hunger meter, the farms around town is a good idea. I'm going to start a market called "Adrian's Good". Now goods, good. 
. I basically sell a ton of food, and buy food from other farmers to sell.
Good idea? Bad?

How's this for an ideal town? You can see a square in the middle which is the tower. Surrounding it are 16 13x13 plots of land. These could be purchased for a large amount of 'money'. (Though the money wouldn't go to anyone, just be thrown away) The point of having to pay is because the town is a very safe place (no PVP) and it's also near lots of shops and stuff. There are paths going around all the plots.
There are 2 walls surrounding the city. Inside them would be redstone and dispensers and stuff, controlling the 4 gates at each side and the dispensers which would be inside the wall.
Outside the city would be a mess of farms. It wouldn't be organised like in the picture, but people could just claim any land and make farms on it. There could be minecarts going all around these farms since they'd be so big it would be hard to get anywhere on foot. What do you think?

Yeah, good idea. I like the idea of buying and selling between farmers.
And do you think my idea is good? I think 16 is too little, and the lots are also too small.

Actually, a small spawn city sounds pretty ideal to me. If we can keep it as organized and have exact measures like your picture, then it would be pretty cool.
