A movie for my cousins

Hi, I am making a movie for my cousins accros the other side of australia, and I can't send them the project alone because they don't have  scratch. But if the project is too big for the scratch website, how am I supposed to put it on my mums or dads or my uncles facebook? if it is too big for the website.

So what I am getting at, will scratch either allow me to put my project on the website even though it is too big, just for this occasion, or teach me how to make my own website, or just put it on a certain website, other than the scratch one.

Re: A movie for my cousins

Yay, sending Scratch project to people on the other side of the country sounds exciting. Sorry to hear you're having problems with the file size though.

Here are a few ideas:
1. Try analyzing why your file is so big. Is it because you're adding music? Sometimes adding a full song is not necessary, a small section of the song could be enough because you can do a loop and play it multiple times. For example:   http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/cremeglace/40150

2. I imagine you know this, but in case you don't: did you try compressing the images and sounds? It's an option on the "extras" button.

3. Even if we were to increase the maximum file size, there is a Java VM limitation. We have found that some projects that are less than 10MB, when decompressed, the images and sounds expand beyond the limits of the Java VM. This makes theJava VM fail and the project never loads. The only way to fix this is by manually giving more memory to the Java VM. This is something complicated that most users will not do. I am afraid that if we increase the file size this problem would occur more often. This happened to this project with lots of images:

4. What size is the file you're trying to send? If it is too big it is possible that your cousin will have problems to download it.

5. After you have read 1, 2, 3 and 4... what size limit do you propose we should have?

Re: A movie for my cousins

well, I have one 7 meg song, but a fifteen to twenty length of pictures and voice acting will bring it to 20 meg. Compressing will bring it to 12. can I put this on just for this once? Its only two meg above the limit? Maybe it can be touched up by a tiny little 3 meg? Or maybe I can chop off the voice acting, in which (uncompressed) will be just over 10meg. I don't like to compress stuff, but it looks like I will have to. Thanks for the stuff. Aaaahhhh! But that song is one I can chop in half!

Re: A movie for my cousins

OR I can chop it into four parts, I can voice act, and it won't have to compress it! This is awesome!!! By the way, I havent started making it, but I know it will be (one piece) about 30 meg! But choppd into four it will be about 7.7 meg, maybe 8.5 because of the pictures.
