Mesh will most likely be expanded on in 2.0, with new features added and whatnot. One addition we need, however, is for Mesh to accept OTHER projects. I don't mean like other copies. I mean like other completely different projects. It will add more variety into the programming possibilities, now wouldn't it? I'll give you a good example. How many of you play Crossover Battles from Megaman Battle Network and Boktai? What if someone loved the idea so much (which is hard not to) and wanted to make it in Scratch. Being a noob at Scratch, he decides to read up on Mesh before he does so. He then finds out that it will only accept the same projects. His heart falls.
Now lets say it accepted compatible projects also. He could've made it, uploaded the two projects, and through all the hard work, got front paged. Happy man is happy, right?
There is ONE problem I see with this: debugging. This process will most likely be VERY glitchy when it first comes out. I can't blame the bunch of fluffy kittens who wrote this site and program (aka the ST), it's hard for Scratch. How will you determine what projects are compatible with what? How will Two completely different projects talk to each other without miscommunication? Yeah, this probably is asking a lot, but hey, this IS the Suggestions forum. ;-)
Oh, and when is the ST gonna make Mesh normally available without hacking?

I thought that you can connect to other projects... it just doesn't work as well.

But how does it filter, "is this a copy or not"?

It looks for copies of the same project under a different IP address.
