Where has project rankings gone- explanation

quote by lanie 624
I think this is wrong! People worked hard on them and your ranking them by saying if they are good or bad

my reply- good point, forgeting about whole topic, forget about putting your projects here, because I am abandoning.

I deleted the whole topic becuase lanie has an excelent point. And from that I am afriad I have hurt some poeples feelings, I know how it feels to work hard on my project and someone says it's bad, and when I made this user, I said to myself 'I will try to be nice to everyone', I have done badly, as I know that I have been nasty, but I still want to keep trying.  sad

Big sorry to poeple whose feelings have been hurt by that, scratch should be something for all levels, and rankings is the worst way to do it.

Re: Where has project rankings gone- explanation

I know, but if I simply forget to rank them, they get put down thinking that they didn't do well enough, whereas I am actually busy with m y homework, or practising my tennis (done quite often), they keep making projects that more suit my rankings, meanwhile it is actually making me busier and putting them down even more!

Re: Where has project rankings gone- explanation

I like that you're trying to avoid making people feel bad about their projects, especially if they are beginners. I wonder if instead of rankings you could have a forum thread to give suggestions to people or give reviews like "i really liked ____, i think instead of ___ you should try ___" etc

Re: Where has project rankings gone- explanation

im sure you can come up with some way of not insulting peoples projects but still showing your favourites.  If you only showed the ranking of your favourite 10 projects im sure no one would mind, that way noone shown would have a low 'score'.
It is an excellent idea to give positive reviews on projects to encourage people to feel good about their work and continue as well as improving.

Re: Where has project rankings gone- explanation

maybe I can only rate the projects that get nine and up, becuase seven and upwards is a good score, but 9 and 10 are absolutely superb. It will be starting again, and maybe if the people who submit thier projects can say if they are under three weeks old (scratching), then they get a bonus 1 on thier rating. (unless thier project already got over nine anyway.

Re: Where has project rankings gone- explanation

stuff it. The project ranking are a mess, there are poeple who don't want it, and some that do. here are my points
Positive points
-people like to see thier projects ranked

Negative points
-It can be a lot of work
-people get angry at me for not having enough time for thier projects
-It hurts peoples feeling to get lower marks
-Thousands of views (rankings is a popular thing) can see other people and me saying stuff we don't want to be saying, then we get others comments on why I shoudn't have said that, I lose friends, get people angry at me because of the other peoples influences...

positve=1
negative=4

Overall- negative.

But if I used Andresmh's idea
positive-
-poeple get a basic idea of thier projects
-it is contructive, (thats the idea of scratch)

Negative-
-some want to compare with others projects
-some want a detailed explanation of thier project

Overall
positive- 2
negative- 2

Re: Where has project rankings gone- explanation

So, I think andresmhs idea, because those negatives are minor points. But why make a whole topic about it? that is what happens in simple comments! But... If I say whats good about peoples projects...

Positive-
-poeple get encouraged to keep scratching eg-
                    -the shading was impressive
                    -the detail was excelent
-the electric giutar sounds really cool!
-competetive people compare with others projects (as long as they dont say 'I got more good points than you!')
-I can give weekly awards, such as the most unique game, the best graphics, the best storyline etc (not the best game)
-poeple don't exactly get put down about not getting THE BEST graphics (etc) awards. In fact, they get lifted up about winning an award.
-I can be more supportive of peoples FIRST projects.

Negatives
-competetive people COULD say that 'he favoured you,' or 'I got more good points than you!'

positive- 4
negative- 2
