A couple years ago scratch was about progects and programing. Now It's about artwork and remixing! SOOOOO many progects are just titled "Add something stupid and remix" and then everybody starts remixing them like crazy. Every single time I check the newest progects it's full of Add and Remix progects. I propose that these be FLAGGED.
Also, I have seenn thousands and thousands of Warrior cat progects with no scripts! Perhaps we could give these people there own website to gunk up, something like warriorcats.scratchr.org I propose we take back scratch!!!
WHO'S WITH ME!!!!!

Errrmmm......... I agree but can't you put that in a slightly nicer context?

It is true that there are many projects that focus more on artwork over scripting. And there is nothing wrong with that! Scratch is simply a tool that can be used by different people in different ways.
I do understand where you are coming from though. I would like to see more ways for different interest groups in Scratch to form communitees and; if desired; not see the other interest groups. I think it would be great if there were tags you could select in your profile so that you would only see projects that meet your selection categories. So if you only want to see game projects, that's all you would see. What do you think?

Anyone can create any type of project they want to as long as it does not interfere with the rules stated in the Terms of Use. Therefore, you cannot flag a project unless it breaks a rule in the Terms of Use.

Agreed.

If scratch only let in original and high quality projects then there would be like 95% less projects on the site. Just chill out and let anyone upload anything they want (as long as it doesn't violate the TOS).

Scratch is about education not artwork! I agree...

Scratch could split into a few divisions, and if you wanted a piece of the pie, ask the Scratch Team! So...
scratch/hamster.mit (for Doody and his union/club)
scratch/warriorcats.mit (for those cat people)
scratch/chainprojects.mit (for chain projects)
...and so forth. It could help clean up the site. Also, each project might have to be approved by the "moderators" or owners of each subsidiary to make sure that it's on topic.

I still don't see what the problem is. Sure there's a lot of those remix-and-pass-it-on projects but if you don't like them, avoid them. There's still lots of good games and other projects out there, so stick to those instead. As Zelda123 said, even if you flag the projects, they won't be removed because they don't break any rules. When did the scratch team say you can't add those projects?
Scratch is mainly about sharing your projects, not just making something really good.

Or a way to ignore all progects with the word remix in them!

What if I make a super awesome coded project and then in the sidebar I ask people NOT to remix it. Then most people will not see my project

i agree with p2s. A fillter to only allow certin type of projects. Reason, A good project will stay on the front page longer. Also, mabye a top remixed section with projects labled remixed, and another top remixed with project labled other.

Just because you put in "Please do not remix" doesn't mean less people will view it. If the project is genuinly awesome then those few people who do view it will pass on the goodness. You don't see people like archmage becoming famous for great projects just because he put in "Please remix". All of these people: Archmage, zelda123, etc... all earned their place. I have to admit that not everyone can make it that far but if you truly have what it takes then you will go far.

I'm afraid I'd have to agree with this. For example [url removed by the Scratch Team to avoid hurting a person's feelings] (not pointing anybody out or anything specific) There are many projects which are just artwork, or mostly. This makes me sad because being an early scratcher, it used to be about INTERACTIVE ART and STORIES and GAMES, and some of the people are still doing well with this, but some don't understand the reason for scratch, and why it was made. Please folks, look at the sample projects. How many of those kinds of projects do you see on the site? Please...I love to see people's artwork and beautiful talents, but, push it, put it to the next level, use the scratch looks code and such, and make it fun.

What ever happened to SCRATCH
I don't know, I think it got lost somewhere down the path about a year ago. It was trampled over by the hordes of people jumping on the Scratch bandwagon.
(:
Don't get me wrong - one way to look at this comment is that I described it is a good thing. I mean, more and more people doing Scratch brings it closer to its goal, right?

Thanks for the generative discussion. Here a few thoughts:
1. Scratch is an educational project aimed primarily at empowering people to express themselves using digital media. That means that we are very happy to see a diverse range of projects. If we were to have only games or only animations or only art work we would not feel as happy as we are now because when love that people with such broad range of interests find Scratch appealing.
2. I do not think the number of projects that use interactivity has gone down, in fact it has probably doubled!
3. I do see your point that we should have better ways of finding projects that are interesting to you. Tags are a good solution, they were designed for that, however there are two issues with tags:
a) A lot of people do not use tags on their own projects.
b) A lot of the tags used are not useful for categorization
Perhaps some of you could start making sure that projects are tagged? You can start with your own projects, try to be as descriptive as possible, thinking of all the categories in which you would like your project to be found. Also, you could do this with other people's projects.
Another thing we could do is close tags so that by default only the project owner can tag his/her own projects. We could also give the option to open tagging to everyone if the project owner decides it.
Finally maybe we could have limited group of people in our community to help categorize projects. We could add a new kind of tags, perhaps called "curated tags" that only some people could create. These trusted group of people would be like Scratch librarians, always trying to improve the categorization of projects to make it easier to find projects.
Once we have a trusted set of tags (in addition to the more open ended tagging) we could create personalized searches so that everyone can find the kind of projects they care about.

to add on to andresmh, mabye scratch could have 4 Main tags, and Each project could only have one of those four. I would go about remixes, games, art, and animation. The site could then be diveded into 5 views, one for each type of project, and then a "all" view, where all projects are visable

That is a great idea, it would also get rid of the remixing and anime problem that some people find.

That would help, but lots of people would put their projects in the wrong place.
