Price of Flash thumb-drives

I don't know about you, but I've noticed a drop in hard disk/flash memory prices. For example, you had to pay around $20 for a 4gb thumb drive around a year ago, but now you can buy one for just over $5

This is all in Australia of course.

Have you noticed this?

EDIT: HDDs have also become very cheap. Last year, you'd be happy to get 1TB for just over $100. Nowadays, you can get 2TB for that price. I think these prices have also been affected by the move to SSDs.

Disscusify.

Re: Price of Flash thumb-drives

When I had to first get a thumb drive for school it was 256mb and cost $40. Just to let you know that thumb drive was bigger than what I needed, I only needed a 128mb drive but the 256mb was all that was left.

Yeah, same. I'm probably going to get one with firewire 800 if possible, but otherwise, there's a nice one with "Porche Design" on the Apple Mac Accesories store. It works for Windows computers too in case you're wondering.

I wonder when they'll start selling thunderbolt SSDs  hmm  They'll probably be really expensive though  tongue

Re: Price of Flash thumb-drives

About 3 years ago, I got a 1GB PNY Attaché flash drive for $10 at Wal-mart. If someone can find out if that exact model is cheaper now (at Wal-mart  tongue ), then we can know for sure.

But yea, I have noticed the price drops too. I remember reading Computer Shopper 2 years ago, and seeing an article about 750 GB hard drives being amazingly big. xD

Re: Price of Flash thumb-drives

I've noticed that there's been a big drop in the price of laptops in the past few years. A good laptop used to cost around $1000, now you can get a very decent laptop for $700. ^^

Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Re: Price of Flash thumb-drives

I saw a 4GB flash drive for $5.99. I think everything in electronics is a lot cheaper now. Have you guys noticed the prices on laptops? You can easily buy a dual-core laptop for $250.

TVs are also cheap too. I remember in 2007 when flat screens cost at least a thousand dollars. Now you can get a decent one for half the price  smile

TV prices have dropped dramatically too... you can get a Full HD one for around $500 here.

Medium quality notebooks cost around $700 and netbooks can be as cheap as $350...  smile

If the prices are that cheap, how much will electronics be in 2 years?

Re: Price of Flash thumb-drives

Well, naturally. The price of technology drops radically in the course of a year, because advances in technology occur very rapidly. Remember, according to Moore's law, the amount of transistors that can be easily placed on an integrated circuit doubles roughly every two years. This means that especially in cases such as processing speed and storage, capabilities are able to be quickly increased with little extra cost.

I have an old Windows 98 laptop with... wait for it... A 6 GIGABYTE HARD DRIVE.

Yeah, just try to comprehend the sheer amount of storage there. You can't, can you?  tongue

No, really I can't  tongue

My old XP laptop has 256mb of RAM... that qualifies it as a super-computer by the way  lol
