Fighting it with your bare hands and instead the robot has the mallet!

Well, even though *insert character's name here* is awesome, I don't think it's possible to beat the robot with his bare hands.    If he had the mallet he would at least have a chance.

  What if he manages to grab a pole or something while dodging the robot?

A mallet is cooler. He'd be like Thor.    And anyway, the robot has hugely powerful lasers.

Lol this is turning into one of those think-a-few-minutes-before-they-can-escape situations.
Maybe he could use the mallet to crunch off a piece of the robot's foot and use it as a shield against the lasers.
How big is the robot?

It's not too big. A bit bigger than a tall human.    It's probably a bit shorter than one story high, humanoid, has almost indestructible armour, and can shoot plasma blasts and rockets from his arms.

And the character is going to do awesome things with the mallet, like throwing it as hard as he can at the robot's head, knocking it backwards. And he'll even get up really close to it and give it proper hand to hand combat (to a degree). This is going to be a very cool character, you understand.

Lol I was picturing a 50-foot metallic monster. 
Where is the battle going to take place?  I can't wait to read this story.

This particular battle is going to take place in a kind of futuristic (since the story takes place in the future) workshop type place, with lots of tools around (hence the mallet). I'm not sure whether to kill the character at the end of the battle though.    I've thought of a pretty awesome, cool way for the character to go.

Well then, here's a rough description of what happens:

*Spoilers*

At the end of the battle The Character (I'll call him that for now  ) is severely wounded, sitting on the ground with back back resting against something. The robot is standing in front of him. The robot raises it's arm, and points it at The Character.

"You will be destroyed," it says, in a robotic voice.
"Yeah, you too, mate," The Character says, as he pulls something out of his pocket.

He tosses it towards the robot. It's a bomb (but of course, this is based in the future, so a bomb that small is capable of creating an explosion the size that a nuclear bomb would). The bomb explodes, killing The Character, but also destroying the robot.

So, what do you think?

Well, I haven't actually started writing any of it. I've just come up with lots of ideas for it. I might start today, though.

I have an idea!  How about he survives the battle, and somebody finds him, nearly dead, and then he either dies of his wounds or recovers over several months, your choice?

But he can't just die of his wounds. He's an awesome character. He has to die in a suitably awesome way (such as blowing up himself and the robot).

But it has to be a noble, heroic death as well. Like willingly sacrificing himself to save everyone/destroy the robot.

How about everyone else passes out but him, and he grabs a laser gun and they shoot each other to death, but everyone else survives?

I prefer my idea.
