Why Adobe?

I feel so sorry for people that get ripped of by adobes crazy prices when there are so many free and open source options. I'll list some...

After affects: http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ I use wax its awesome!

Photo shop: http://www.gimp.org/ i tend to think gimp is better than paint.net but i'll link it to http://getpaint.net inkscape http://inkscape.org/
Dreamweaver: http://www.nvu.com/ Nvu

Flash: Html5 http://www.scirra.com/ learn about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5

Those are just the ones i use but if you know about more tell me.

Discuss.

Re: Why Adobe?

Abobe products are more intended for professionals. They may be extremely expensive, but for pros it's worth the cost to have something so powerful. An average user doesn't need the vast amount of features available though, so free software will work just as well for them.

Not really. Adobe products can be a little hard to learn, but they're extremely feature-rich.  hmm

Like I said though, your average person doesn't need anything like that. Free software is more than enough in most cases.

Photoshop is a ripoff, because I use GIMP.

However, on my iPad, I use an app called Adobe Ideas, which is awesome.  big_smile

No it's not. HTML5 and Flash serve similar purposes, but they're completely different.  roll

It is not the same at all. First, HTML5 is just a big upgrade of HTML4, and so, web page making thing is not the same as game maker. :3

Try stencyl it's the same as flash but free but is limited and does not give you the full experience (insert colon three face here)

That doesn't mean it's the same thing. You can make games with Javascript, but it's not recommended.

Of course I know what HTML5 is (however I haven't tried it, I'm still learning everything) but Flash is a... what's it called? I'll think of it later. Flash is a program that is complete to make games and animations, and it's recommended. There are many reasons why HTML5 is better than Flash, but overall Flash is probably better than HTML5. Especially because people can copy your online games that you made by viewing source code. People can't copy your flash games unless you release the file(s)...

Oh, we wouldn't want that! I was just pointing out that while HTML5 is a useful alternative to Flash, it's hardly the same thing, and isn't suitable in all cases.

Re: Why Adobe?

Okay, enough of Flash and stuff.

But...

There is a reason why adobe products are so expensive. Because they are professional. They have the least bugs and stuff and will crash less.

(This is sort of like how since my school didn't have time to purchase Microsoft Office or iWorks, we used OpenOffice the whole year. My powerpoint crashed because of open office and I got a 0 for that. However, I talked to the teacher and she changed my grade.)

But things are free for a reason, because they are less reliable. Rich people can afford these things (and a lot of other things) so just let people buy them...

By the way, people are not "ripped off".

Well you have a point there not entirely ripped off IF they know there are other options but when they have no idea about any other options then they are ripped off  tongue  Plus are you using libreOffice? I've never had trouble with LibreOffice  big_smile

I've never had a problem with OpenOffice, although I admit that I greatly prefer Microsoft Office, if only because I'm just used to it.
