Does scratch 1.4 projects work on 1.0?

So my school has Scratch installed, but I THINK it's only 1.0. But the Scratch I have at home is 1.4, and I'm thinking about making a project I'm supposed to do at school at home, then email it as an attachment to my school email address and download it.
My question though, if it's a 1.4 project, will it work in 1.0?

Re: Does scratch 1.4 projects work on 1.0?

It'll work, but any blocks that were added or changed since 1.0 will appear as non-functioning "obsolete" blocks.

Re: Does scratch 1.4 projects work on 1.0?

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure it'll give you the "bad header" error if you try. You can only load projects from earlier versions into newer ones.

Why is your school using 1.0, anyway? It was the first version ever released, and barely has any relevance to Scratch today...

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

You could also download the 1.0 .IMAGE file from here (read the project notes).

Are you sure about that? I opened a project made in 1.4 in my friend's version of Scratch, which was 1.3.  hmm

Oops, it only gives you that error with 1.2.1 and lower. My mistake  tongue

But if ProgrammingAddict's school has 1.0, it'll still give him that message...

My friend uses 1.3 and I can download his/her projects easily onto 1.4 like any other project (1.4) that I download.

Idk if 1.0 will be able to handle 1.4's complexity. (Lucky, you have Scratch at school! I only have it at home  sad  ).

Re: Does scratch 1.4 projects work on 1.0?

There was never a version of Scratch called 1.0, by the by. (EDIT: Oh, looks like there was! My bad!) It started at 1.0.1 (in limited availability) and went onto 1.0.2, and then 1.1, and has been going up since then. I'd expect your version of Scratch was 1.1, as that is the version most schools seem to have.

Either way, anything earlier than 1.3 won't be able to open projects by later versions, so you'll not be able to do so unless you have 1.3 or later.

As an alternative, you can download older version of Scratch here and continue on with your ingenious plan.  wink

Just realised, it's not 1.0, but it's definitely earlier than my version at home.

Re: Does scratch 1.4 projects work on 1.0?

I used 1.1 a long time ago. I think it was the first version that became popular.

Why don't you just ask someone at your school to update?

It's not that great at school, everyone else is beginner, so all we ever do is just copy the easiest scripts possible off the board instead of making our own  sad

If you have a flash drive, you can put scratch 1.4 on a flash drive and run it from there. Or a DVD.

This is a temporary signature. It will exist until I think of something witty.

Yeah... it's a fairly common phrase.
