Generally, I am in favor of remixing...as long as credit is given, either automatically or manually in the Project Notes.  However, I have seen cases where people have abused the remixing feature by making insulting projects or have failed to give credit (and have actively worked to defeat the automatic credit).  Therefore, I am favoring a plan where you can deny those people the privilege of remixing your work by adding them to your Ignore list.  So, in addition to not being able to comment on your projects, Ignored people would not be able to download your projects.  Let me know what you think of this idea.

As for the Remix section of the Front Page...repairs are being made.

Great idea for a forum topic, by the way!

I agree the idea is brilliant because it solves most problems. I thought maybe if they ever wanted to replace top remix then maybe it could be with top favored. Thanks by the way  smile

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

I don't really find a problem with remixing, except when people just copy a project and repost it with a different sprite, or just reposting it.
And then people who extract sprites(Like me) and add them on to another project should still give credit in the description or something, other than those things, i find no problem with it.

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

I find no problem with the remixing system, except when people claim it as there own. There was this one user who copyied exactly my project, which is fine by me, but then she claimed we colaborated on it. That got to me. I didn't even know the user. Anways, I believe that had been dealt with so yeah.

I think a spot for featured users is a great idea, It would be interesting to see that added on the front page

I like remixing, it gives people a chance to learn and adapt. And because it says 'based on ......'s project' its all fair? Right  hmm

Remixing, generally I think it was a good idea. But I think that some people have abused that which dissapoints me.

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

The whole "remixing problem" has nothing to do with the idea of remixing, rather, how people use it. Lately, the top whatever sections (not featured) have been degrading in terms of quality and effectiveness. That, of course brings me to the subject of quality control, which has been turned down by many figures of scratch, but the whole point behind it was: Sure, Scratch is supposed to be about educating and not making the best project, but it would be nice if people put more effort into their projects. In reality, there have been many a project with 1 or no scripts. Inclusively, there are about 169.806 members without any projects. Speaking of which:
STATUS UPDATE:
as of January 28, 2009, 5:44PM EST,
309,357 projects
8,090,795 scripts
48,045 contributors
217,851 registered members
which accounts for:
26 scripts per project
169,806 non-project users
6 projects per contributor
2 projects per registered member

That being said, quality control in general is probably a good idea, since Scratch is about education, and education is about learning, you can't learn if you don't try.

You Know That Project ___________________________________________ ? there was 54 of the same project.. The Scratch Police Went Crazy.. I Think We Should Be Able It Report Fake Remixes. 10 remixes where nothings changed. Unless It Fixes The Project. There's A Way To Keep Remixing Under Control.  smile

Remixing is one of the key advantages of sharing on a site like this. It would help if there were alternative ways of saving and sharing, or even a checkbox that disabled project downloads for those who object.

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

I'd prefer to have the users get more control on their projects. I mean, when they upload the project, they can choose if it can be remixed or not (or remixed by friends, or certain users, etc.). Also, when someone imports a project into theirs and upload it, it says "This project has materials from [username]'s project", or something similar, to prevent stealing.

A better idea could be somehow setting projects as "read-only", so you can only view scripts, but NOT modify or upload them.

These are my ideas on this topic  smile

Well What If You Want Only Certain Users To Be able To Change It and what if someone downloaded it and found a bug but can't change it?

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

I hate it when people abuse the remix system. People make a project like: "add your self..." and then that project gets top viewed aswell, kicking out great projects because of a few little pictures. I agree switching top remixed for top fav.

Also, (somehow  tongue ) the Scratch team should make it so when you upload your project, you can check a box to say whether or not you will allow people to remix your projcet.

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

I dont mind if someone remixes a project if they have changed it. So maybe there can be an automatic filter which doesnt allow projects with the exact same scripts as another to be uploaded.

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

I just think we should get rid of remixing also.. because a ton of the project are just remixig projects which take a lot of space.. it adds up fast..

a ton of projects that have 20-100 remixes that are each about 1-2mb
so on average a remix series might be 55-100mb

Re: ScratchR's Speak Out *Participate Please*

Why not have a type of project that will let people change it, so the remix-a-thons are kept to one project. That would eleminate space and apease some people. Maybe also have a backup, incase some random person decides to mess it up.

True but they have to find the right issue to post her remix because each issue will have a different topic.

Dear Scratch Users,
I'm done with scratch, or at least making projects. I have made one last big game, thats both fun and teaches a lesson about water. It'd mean a lot if you gave me feedback.                              http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/bosox397/569201
