That IS a stupid question.
JK! It's a 3D game that takes place in a randomly generated world, and you can explore, fight monsters, farm, build, and manipulate the world by breaking and placing blocks, which you can also use to make tools and upgrade weapons and armor, because when it becomes night time, monsters come out and attack you. Look it up, it's pretty cool!

Yes it is!!!
It's a problem-solving game and I think it's really fun if you give it a serious chance.

Games like this don't need points, and let's not forget the adventure pack update!

The main things you do in minecraft is explore and mine in an infinite randomly generated world that holds anything from villages to deserts, to rain forests, to snowy paradises. The mining aspect is very fun. You can dig down and search for rare minerals or explore caves and dungeons which create monsters. The minerals you find can be used as lightsources, upgrades for tools, dying blocks to get coloured blocks. And if you find a dungeon you will be able to loot it collecting rare items such as saddles (to ride on pigs), records (to play music on a juke box) and much more.
You also have 3 progress bars (don't know what else to call them). The first is health. You lose health from getting attacked by monsters, falling into lava, falling a long way and some other things. The next bar is hunger. To survive you need to eat fairly often. Walking around increases hunger but you could start an animal farm to collect chicken, beef and pork. You could also start farms such as melon farms and wheat farms. The last bar is and experience bar. You gain experience from fighting monsters and such. I'm not sure what the advantages of high XP are though.
There are 3 modes to minecraft. Classic: A free, but very limited version including a multiplayer which is found on minecraft.net. And Survival: The payed version of minecraft which adds monsters, crafting and a lot more. The third is Creative: Comes free with Survival and is very similar to Survival except there are no monsters, you have unlimited blocks, you can fly and change the time very easily.
There are also a fair amount of monsters and animals in minecraft. I'll start with the ones that attack you.
Zombie: Spawns in the dark and will attack you if you get too close. Drops rotten flesh which decreases hunger but also decreases health.
Skeleton: A ranged monster that shoots you if it sees you. Drops bones, used for taming wolves and fertilising plants. They also drop arrows, used with bows.
Creepers: A green creature which will explode if you get within 1 or 2 blocks of it. Drops gunpowder used for TNT.
Spiders: Similar to zombie but is much faster and jumps higher. Drops string, used for making bows.
Slimes: Found far underground, have different sizes. Will attack you if they see you. Drops slimeballs used for 'pistons' which I won't explain now.
Ghasts: Found in a different world, similar to hell. Float around, look like ghosts and shoot fireballs at you which explode when they hit. Drops gunpowder.
Zombie pigmen: Also found in the nether. Will only attack if you attack them. If they are attacked ALL of their kind will attack you. Drops cooked pork, used for healing and decreasing hunger.
Endermen: Tall creatures which will only attack you if you stare right at them. Dunno what they drop.
Silverfish: Insects which occasionally pop out of blocks when you break them. Dunno what they drop.
Wolves: Attack you in packs if you attack them. Drop nothing.
Blue spiders: Found in 'abandoned mineshafts' in villages. Dunno what they drop.
NOW FOR THE NICE HAPPY MOBS:
Pigs: Known for being derpy, wander about aimlessly. Drop uncooked pork.
Sheep: Also derpy, drop wool when killed and drop even more wool when sheared.
Cows: The derpest of them all, drop leather used for basic armour.
Chickens: Perhaps steals cows' place in derpiness. Drop chicken when killed (duh).
Wolves (unangered): Found in forests, often in packs. Will attack other animals but not the player unless the player attacks them. Drop nothing.
Squids: Very derpy. Very herpy. Found in the sea, drop ink sacks, used to dye blocks.
I think that's all. Some of the things don't exist yet but will in a few days when Notch (the creator) updates minecraft.

Nice explanation, werdna
And Minecraft's awesome. You'd get bored of it eventually, though.

The point of the game is...
Well, actually, there is no point. But that's what makes it fun.
