Same here. That's the problem with today's culture... Parents think their kids might hate them if they spank/cane them when they are naughty. I was at the library yesterday, and this 3 year-old was on the floor throwing a tantrum kicking his legs because he didn't want to leave. The mother, should have picked him up and punished him, but instead, she said in a very soft voice trying to be nice "Come on now, we aren't going back in the library, so come with me." It was sad and hilarious.

Violence doesn't solve anything.

I think some people make a distinction between violence and discipline. ^^

i still see someone smacking a kid as violence.

Well, yes, there's a fine line between discipline and just downright cruelty, but smacking your child when they misbehave is natural and isn't cruel. Without punishment, the kid will just grow up to be a lazy loser who sits on the couch all day. I know it sounds mean, but it's true.

they could just take away their favorite toy or something

From personal experience, caning is much more effective.

I agree with 08jackt. Have you ever heard about this little toddler who his moms boyfriend took to the store? The little boy did nothing wrong and just followed him around completely silent, and the man punched him and kicked him and made him bleed. And if It wasn't for the security cameras, he would have gotten away with it. Many people take it too far and treat their children like this. Then comes the childrens fatal injury they "somehow" got.

That's taking it too far, but otherwise, physical punishment is still not bad. Now, if the kid starts getting bruised up and bloody and their parent starts smacking them everytime they talk, like in your story, then that's going too far.

I interrupted an exam. Lol. And my dad caned me five times.

What's so bad? It's not like he didn't have a reason.

He had a reason. You can cause physical harm to someone if you have a reason. In Singapore, the government canes criminals, and our crime rate is very, very low.
