Why is the word "hypocrite" so bad to you guys?
It simply means you either do something or act like the thing you told someone else
A. they shouldn't do.
B. they suck at something.
It's the ultimate anti-flamer word. No need to fear it unless you are flaming people.

According to my friend it means "total idiot". T_T
the thing is he's a hypocrite and every time I point that out he gives me the evil eye

Hypocrite can be construed as an offensive word because it has some potential negative connotations. As always, there are polite ways to get across your point and impolite ways. For example saying
That's hypocritical and dumb!
Is a very rude way to send your message. Whereas,
I'm confused because you said X and you do Y. Could you explain this to me?
Is a nicer, non-offensive why to communicate the same idea.

Where'd he get that from? It doesn't mean "total idiot". Weird.
