Laptop. iPads are all cool and flashy and all, but they are really overpriced (and not to mention are only oversized iPhone 4s (iPod Touch in the case of the Wifi-only iPad)).
If you do get a tablet though, get a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Those are awesome (and run on Android
).

Get a macbook air/pro and then get a ipad...
If you HAVE to get a windows laptop... get an ipad... especially if you already have a laptop...
So get an iPad

I would get a computer.
By the way, what would be your price range for a laptop? That could be a factor.

My computer is old and it still works.
Well, the back is coming off of mine, and the screen will probably break soon.

As soon as you buy the iPad they're probably gonna make a new one in less than 6 months. Typical apple *tut*
Get a PC
True. There's a new ipad coming out next year (less than 6 months). The iPad 3.
Get a PC. Lots of OS's for PC's. Linux, Mac, Windows, ect.

If you like iPads, then get a MacBook Air, as there are still some great online games and iPads aren't compatible to play projects as they can't install Java or Flash. Also, the keyboard is more fiddly on the iPad so its harder to type in the Scratch Wiki or Forums.
My solution: MacBook Air

I'll go with the computer. Windows 7 Home Premium. Now I have to choose a model.

Cheapest one you can find
I was gonna get a laptop, until I realised base units were the same price, and had more memory and lots more storage :3 And I don't need to buy a monitor, I can just connect it to the TV

I have both an iPad and a laptop. I would get the laptop if you don't already have one because of the capabilities. The iPad is no replacement to a computer (yet), but I do believe it is worth getting if you have the opportunity. The iPad is mostly focused on the apps on the apps store, so if u know the app store, then you know the limits.
Both devices are great, just start with the laptop.

Well, I have a laptop, but it's ready to die.
My mom said I should get the laptop too.

If you do get an iPad, wait til the iPad 3.
It's rumoured to have something like a 2600x1600 screen... a retina display...
They'll probably ramp up the cpu and gnu as well

IDK how the heck I'm going to upgrade my laptop when I get the chance, because so much important stuff is on here, but I need better specs...
Heck, maybe I'll just have two laptops.
But anyway, enough about me.
Um...IDK what model you should get; depends on if you want performance or not...I'm not an expert on selecting computers, lol.
(BTW I wish Mac OS X was easier to install on PCs
. Mac OS X is like completely closed, Linux is completely open (most of the time), and Windows is right in the middle: it can be installed anywhere, but it's still proprietary software.
)

Personally, I'd go with a laptop if I had to choose one or the other. A laptop, while admittedly a little more of a pain to carry around, is just so much more versatile. You can do much more with a laptop than a tablet, while there isn't much of anything [useful] that a tablet can do that a laptop can't.
Just my two cents.
