I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned before but in my absence I haven't the time to search.
What I'm saying is that we need Scratch to be able to export to java
NAO!!!
I've waited over four years for this feature and I'm finally deciding to speak about it. Once we gain the ability to export to java (.jar files) we can run our programs on any computer with Java Runtime Environment! It seems perfectly possible, since we already use java as our default webplayer, why can't we put that functionality onto the desktop? Just think! now we can give our program to other people who don't have scratch!
However there is a chance that I am totally wrong in some way and Scratch will never be able to export to java .
In any case though, I'm surprised we don't have that functionality yet. IMO it should have been in scratch a long time ago.

In the future I think we'll be able to export .swf files, but I'm not sure if .jar files. It'd be hard to do, and if it were to be implemented, it would come with Scratch 2.0 in mid 2012. It would be cool, but it's not easy to do.

I don't understand how flash is easier than java. For one, Scratch is built on Java (or so I am led to believe) and for another, it can readily export to a java web player. Of course this has been done in flash recently too, but java is a bit more universal than flash, IYKWIM.

Yes, but since it is not already a feature, it must be added. So if it were to be added, it will be added in 2.0. And since 2.0 will be built by flash, if it were to be added, it would export to flash.

Built... by... Flash? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Oh well. I hope they do add it cause if they don't i'm gonna be SO MAD.

Actually, it's not. It's built in Squeak, and is not easily converted to the Java player. There are tons of bugs and a general decrease in performance. That's why Scratch is moving to Flash in the first place. This way, projects will work the same offline and online.
So no, it would be far from simple to export Scratch projects as Java executables.

1.) Scratch was not made in Java
2.) It's hard to export .sb as .jar
3.) Flash is harder than java O_o
4.) Scratch 2.0 is being made in Flash
5.) This thread is getting me confused
