Why do people write 'bump'?

Title says everything. I can't work it out.

Re: Why do people write 'bump'?

It's a way to bring the thread back up top in the list of threads. It's an acronym for 'bring up my post', though not many know that.

BUMP! Joking, joking  big_smile

When a person posts a reply simply to put it at the top of the thread list. It's well hated by a few people.  smile

Re: Why do people write 'bump'?

Putting a topic at the top will get more people to view it, so if you needed help with something, you might "bump" it, and it will be in an easier spot to see it.  smile

Yeah, actually to the person above, I actually never knew that. Hm... well, learn something every day!

Yeah, bumping helps bring your post back to the top. Thats all really, you're "bumping" it back to the top. Get it?

Re: Why do people write 'bump'?

Bumping brings up the post, but more importantly than that, it's pretty much a form of spam, and it's pretty annoying.

I certainly don't consider bumping a form of spam! It's a way of getting a thread noticed better in the list. It's completely legitimate if the thread hasn't gotten many views yet.

It's not a form of spam, if you're thread is on the second page, not many people will see it. So by bringing up the post, more people will see it.
