I try, and I try...

I just must suck at Scratch... I make good stuff yet none of it gets the fame it deserves while games that are poorly made clutter the front page. I was going to release m new game and thought "Why bother? It will go unappreciated". The system is broke:
A new Scratcher makes an amazing game and gets 30 views.
A "Famous Scratcher makes a mediocre game and gets +500 views.

Until that new Scratcher gets what he deserves I wont release my newest project. Blame the community.

Take action, give new Scratchers a chance and stop assuming popular people make new projects, this syndrome will never be fixed.

I think that it is unfair to new scratchers deal with it.

Re: I try, and I try...

Do you mean that you want other new scratchers who are good at Scratch to get more views?

Re: I try, and I try...

I agree with you, but that's no reason to withhold a game from release. Scratch isn't about popularity, it's about fun. In fact, I'm kind of tired of people complaining that their projects don't get enough views. That's just how life works. Some people get tons of attention, while others just don't. Look at almost any system in life, and that's what you'll find. Scratch isn't about everyone being popular, though I do feel some new scratchers are shunned. Scratch is about having fun seeing your ideas come to life. Please reconsider.

Back. For now. Maybe.

Re: I try, and I try...

I don't get a ton of attention on my projects but my first project has like 500-ish views, oddly enough. Of course, that's from over time, so...

Re: I try, and I try...

^_^

I found that I lost a good deal of my popularity after the 1.5 years of not posting any projects on the site. I was able to regain a portion of it through vigorous advertizing on Show and Tell and threatening to destroy the Universe if I don't get views (Of course, only I can do the latter, because I'm the only one here who is immortal and can actually destroy the Universe, but no matter).

I just had a quick glance at your projects and what I can say is that you should try to work on your thumbnails a tad bit more. The value of a project thumbnail is often underestimated (especially by those who are used to looking at the programming side of a project rather than drawing pweety artz), but it is actually a pretty big deal. The reason for that is because other than the title, the project thumbnail is the only thing that people will be seeing when browsing through projects, and since a thumbnail is larger and more colorful than a title, it will be the #1 cause for people to click on your project (or not click on it, depending on how pweety or fuglish it is).

If you look at the top projects right now, you will see that their thumbnails do a good job at presenting the project well enough to make somebody click on it. The pictures are well proportioned to fit the small size of the thumbnail and they often contain the face of the main character on them, or the title of the project in big phat letters.

But of course, the brand also matters. If you are a well known person, people will be viewing your stuff no matter what. But if you make enough projects with good thumbnails to brighten up your Stuff page, you will eventually accumulate the fame needed to get on the front page. Hope this helped.

Good luck! ^_^

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>
